PlayStation Plus Extra & Premium May 2026 Update Brings Major Open-World Releases

Sony has officially revealed the latest additions coming to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium libraries for May 2026, and this month’s update delivers one of the strongest catalog refreshes in recent memory. With heavyweight titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Star Wars Outlaws leading the lineup, subscribers across the higher PlayStation Plus tiers are getting access to several large-scale experiences spanning multiple genres.

The update continues Sony’s strategy of strengthening the Extra and Premium catalogs with a mixture of newer AAA releases, critically praised indie games, and nostalgic classics for longtime PlayStation fans.

PlayStation Plus Tiers Explained

PlayStation Plus currently operates through three separate subscription tiers.

The Essential tier focuses mainly on online multiplayer access and monthly downloadable games. The Extra tier expands the service by giving subscribers access to a rotating library of PS4 and PS5 titles, while the Premium tier adds legacy content from older PlayStation generations including PS1, PS2, PSP, and select PS3 releases.

Unlike monthly Essential games, the Extra and Premium catalogues rotate over time, meaning games can eventually leave the service after their availability window expires.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Returns to the Spotlight

One of the biggest additions this month is Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar Games’ massive open-world western remains one of the highest-rated games of the modern era and continues to attract players years after its original launch.

The game is widely praised for its storytelling, world design, realism, and attention to detail. Its inclusion instantly strengthens the value of the Extra catalog, especially for players who never experienced Arthur Morgan’s journey during the original release period.

The online component also continues to maintain a dedicated player base despite Rockstar’s reduced support in recent years.

Star Wars Outlaws Joins the Service

Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws is another major addition drawing attention this month. The open-world Star Wars title had a mixed launch reception initially, but updates and improvements over time appear to have significantly improved community perception.

Its arrival on PlayStation Plus may introduce a larger audience to the game while also giving hesitant players an opportunity to try it without purchasing it separately.

The title’s large-scale environments, space travel, and cinematic presentation make it one of the more ambitious Star Wars games released in recent years.

Full May 2026 PlayStation Plus Extra Lineup

Subscribers to PlayStation Plus Extra will receive access to the following games:

  • Bramble: The Mountain King
  • Broken Sword – Shadows of the Templar: Reforged
  • Enotria: The Last Song
  • Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Star Wars Outlaws
  • The Thaumaturge

The lineup offers a broad mix of genres, ranging from action RPGs and narrative adventures to darker fantasy experiences and large-scale open-world games.

Premium Tier Adds a PlayStation Classic

For Premium subscribers, the classic PS1 shooter Time Crisis joins the retro library this month.

The arcade-style light-gun shooter became one of the most recognizable PlayStation experiences during the late 1990s and remains highly nostalgic for longtime fans of the platform. Its arrival continues Sony’s slow but steady expansion of the Premium classics catalogue.

June 2026 Games Reveal Is Coming Soon

Sony has also confirmed that the next batch of monthly PlayStation Plus games for June 2026 will be revealed on May 27, ahead of their launch on June 2.

As usual, expectations are already building across the PlayStation community regarding what titles could arrive next, especially following the strong May catalog refresh.

With major AAA games now appearing more frequently in the Extra lineup, many subscribers are hoping Sony continues expanding the service’s overall value throughout the remainder of 2026.
