Black Ops Fans Fear They May Have to Buy DLC Maps Again on PS5

Excitement over the upcoming PlayStation ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has been met with a new concern. Some fans believe they could end up paying for classic DLC map packs all over again.

While Activision previously clarified that both games are simple ports rather than full remasters, PlayStation players have largely welcomed their arrival. For many, it marks the first opportunity in years to revisit the two popular titles without having to dust off a PlayStation 3.

A Long-Awaited Return

Unlike Xbox players, who have benefited from backwards compatibility, PlayStation owners have remained limited to the original PS3 releases. PC players, meanwhile, have continued to access both games without issue.

The announcement that Iron Galaxy is bringing Black Ops and Black Ops 2 to PS4 and PS5 has therefore generated considerable excitement. Both games are expected to include Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies, though several details remain unknown.

Separate DLC Listings Spark Concerns

Recent PlayStation Store updates have led some players to worry that downloadable content may not be bundled with the games. Fans noticed separate listings for DLC packs, prompting speculation that the content could be sold individually.

Should that prove true, players who previously owned the map packs may need to purchase them again to access all of the multiplayer and Zombies experiences that made the games so memorable.

Nothing Has Been Confirmed

At the time of writing, neither Activision nor Treyarch has officially confirmed how downloadable content will be handled. There has been no word on whether DLC will be included with the base games, offered through a bundle, or sold separately.

As a result, the concerns remain speculative for now. However, the possibility of paying for decade-old DLC a second time has already sparked debate among longtime Call of Duty fans, who are hoping for a complete package when the two classics finally arrive on modern PlayStation hardware.
