With Grand Theft Auto 6 now available for pre-order ahead of its November 19, 2026 launch, one question continues to divide the community: Will Rockstar eventually release a true physical disc edition?
At launch, both the PlayStation and Xbox boxed editions include a digital redemption code tied to a single account rather than a playable game disc. That means players won’t be able to trade, resell, or lend their copy in the traditional way, disappointing many collectors and physical media enthusiasts.
Digital First, Physical Questions Remain
Rockstar currently offers two editions of GTA 6:
- Standard Edition – $79.99
- Ultimate Edition – $99.99
The Ultimate Edition has already sparked criticism from parts of the community after reports suggested that several in-game stores and exclusive content are only accessible through the premium edition. While Rockstar has yet to fully explain how these features will work, some fans are concerned that meaningful content could be locked behind the higher-priced version.
Disc Version Rumored for December
Rumors surrounding a physical disc release have resurfaced this week.
Earlier this year, Polish outlet PPE claimed that Rockstar and Take-Two were considering delaying a disc release to reduce the risk of story leaks before launch. However, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick later dismissed those reports, stating that delaying a physical release “isn’t the plan.”
Now, PPE is once again reporting—citing the same insider—that a traditional disc version could still arrive sometime in December 2026, roughly one month after the game’s digital launch and code-in-box retail release.
At the time of writing, Rockstar Games has not confirmed these claims.
Collector’s Edition Also Rumored
Adding more fuel to the speculation, Portuguese YouTuber Ricfazeres claims an anonymous source has hinted that Rockstar is preparing a Collector’s Edition of GTA 6.
No information has been shared regarding its contents, pricing, or release date, making it impossible to verify whether such an edition actually exists.
Fans Should Wait for Official Confirmation
For collectors, second-hand buyers, and anyone hoping to own GTA 6 on a traditional Blu-ray disc, there are still plenty of unanswered questions.
Rockstar has not confirmed whether a playable disc edition is planned, how any future physical version would differ from the current boxed release, or whether collectors can expect special editions beyond the Standard and Ultimate versions.
Until Rockstar officially comments, these reports should be treated as rumors rather than confirmed information. For now, the only confirmed launch products remain the digital version and the boxed editions containing a redemption code.
