Treyarch and Raven Software have released a new cross-platform update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on May 22, delivering another round of fixes and balance changes as Season 3 Reloaded begins wrapping up ahead of the launch of Season 4.
The latest patch focuses heavily on Ranked Play balance, Zombies progression issues, Endgame mission tracking, and several frustrating UI-related bugs that players have been reporting throughout the current season.
While the update is not a massive content drop, it continues Treyarch’s recent push to stabilize competitive play and resolve lingering gameplay problems before the next seasonal rollout begins.
Ranked Play Receives More Weapon Restrictions
One of the biggest parts of the update revolves around Ranked Play balancing, specifically targeting the MPC-25.
Treyarch has now restricted multiple attachments and modifications tied to the weapon in order to preserve competitive integrity and reduce unfair advantages during Ranked matches.
The newly restricted items include:
Muzzles
- K&S Compensator
- K&S Brake-2B
Underbarrel
- Flowguard Foregrip
Fire Mod and Other Attachments
- Recoil Sync Unit
- 5.56x30mm FMJ
At the moment, Treyarch has not confirmed whether these restrictions will carry over into Season 4 or if they are temporary measures designed specifically for the final weeks of Season 3 Reloaded.
The move comes as the developers continue working on a larger Ranked Play overhaul that aims to improve fairness and transparency for competitive players.
Treyarch Continues Work on Ranked Skill Rating Changes
Alongside the attachment restrictions, Treyarch reiterated that a broader Ranked Play skill rating overhaul is still in development.
According to previous developer comments, the goal is to reduce the impact of hidden MMR systems and uncontrollable matchmaking variables that many players believe create inconsistent competitive experiences.
The planned changes are expected to focus more heavily on visible player performance and direct competitive outcomes rather than behind-the-scenes calculations that players cannot track themselves.
Although no release date for the overhaul has been announced yet, the continued balancing updates suggest Treyarch is actively preparing Ranked Play for larger structural changes in future seasons.
Zombies Players Can Finally Unlock the Aether Ruler Title
The Zombies mode also received an important fix in the May 22 update.
Treyarch resolved an issue that previously prevented players from unlocking the Aether Ruler title after completing Totenreich with all eight Wicked Relics active.
The bug had become a major frustration for completion-focused Zombies players, especially those attempting some of the mode’s hardest challenge runs.
With the issue now fixed, eligible players should finally be able to properly earn the title after meeting the required conditions.
UI and Endgame Tracking Problems Fixed
Several annoying interface and progression issues were also addressed in the patch.
One major UI fix resolves a problem where weapon fire-mode changes were not properly displaying on the HUD, which often caused confusion during matches.
Another fix targets the Black Hat field upgrade exploit that could leave players stuck holding an undeployable Sentry Turret after stealing and placing one.
In addition, Molotov skins should now properly appear inside player loadouts after previously failing to display correctly.
Endgame mode also received a progression fix for Act II — Step 8, where eliminations against Nightmare enemies using Abilities were not tracking correctly for some players.
Season 4 Preparation Appears to Be Underway
With Season 3 Reloaded entering its final phase, this update appears focused more on cleanup and competitive stability than introducing major new systems.
Treyarch’s continued attention toward Ranked Play balance, progression fixes, and long-standing gameplay bugs suggests the studio is attempting to create a smoother foundation before Season 4 officially begins.
Whether the upcoming season introduces larger gameplay changes, new Ranked systems, or additional balancing passes remains to be seen, but the May 22 update shows that developer support for Black Ops 7 remains active heading into the next content cycle.
