Nova Swarm Update Adds 50 New Cabinet Wonders, Smarter Tactical Drafts, and Major Gameplay Improvements

Nova Swarm has received another substantial update, bringing a large collection of new atmospheric content alongside numerous gameplay improvements and quality-of-life changes. The highlight is the addition of 50 new Cabinet Wonders, expanding the total collection to 60 unique discoveries for players to uncover.

Alongside the new collectible lore, the update improves controls, boss encounters, Tactical Draft choices, rewards, localization, and overall gameplay presentation.

50 New Cabinet Wonders Join Nova Swarm

The biggest addition is the expansion of the Cabinet Wonders system. Players can now discover a total of 60 unique Wonders throughout their runs.

Wonders now have a chance to appear during safe transitions every third sector. To keep exploration fresh, recently encountered Wonders remain out of the rotation for a while, reducing the chance of immediate repeats.

Every discovered Wonder is permanently stored inside the new Threat Codex category and automatically synced through Steam Cloud.

Each Wonder includes:

  • Unique artwork
  • Signal classification
  • Field notes
  • Original backstory

These entries explore forgotten expeditions, impossible machines, vanished civilizations, and mysterious Cabinet experiments. They are designed to expand Nova Swarm’s universe without affecting gameplay.

Importantly, Wonders remain entirely atmospheric. They do not influence rewards, difficulty, enemy behavior, score, or Tactical Draft selections.

Boss Controls Feel More Responsive

The update also fixes an issue that occasionally interrupted movement during boss introductions.

Previously, holding a movement direction could briefly stop working while the boss warning appeared or disappeared. Keyboard and controller movement now remain uninterrupted throughout the entire warning sequence.

Only intentional transitions—such as pausing, opening Tactical Draft, or losing window focus—will reset player input.

Cleaner Boss Warnings and Better Reinforcement Alerts

Boss warning visuals have also received several improvements.

Decorative elements no longer overlap boss portraits, creating a cleaner presentation during encounters.

Reinforcement notifications now use three different intensity levels:

  • Routine reinforcements use a subtle positional warning.
  • Major attacks receive a stronger alert.
  • Large headline events continue using the full cinematic warning presentation.

This makes important threats easier to identify while preventing every incoming ship from feeling equally dramatic.

Drone Combat and Near Misses Improved

Several combat systems have also been refined.

Drone Constellation now creates proper converging fire patterns even when only one drone remains active.

Permanent drones now render underneath the player’s ship, making the ship model and hitbox much easier to read during combat.

Near-miss scoring has expanded as well. Diving enemies, returning ships, and reinforcement routes can now reward guarded ship-graze near misses. Each eligible ship only grants this bonus once, preventing players from farming repeated grazes.

Overrun Mode Rewards Increased

Players who enjoy Overrun mode will now earn more Career XP.

Career XP rewards have increased from 65% to 85% of standard progression.

Several existing restrictions remain in place:

  • Skipped sectors still award no XP.
  • Overrun remains excluded from leaderboards.
  • Achievements stay disabled.
  • Checkpoint unlocks remain unavailable.
  • Ranked records remain separate.
  • Pure and Tactical modes continue tracking personal bests through Steam Cloud.

Sector Runs Start Faster

Launching a Sector Run is now significantly quicker.

The game immediately starts from your previously selected checkpoint, reducing unnecessary menu navigation.

Players can still choose another checkpoint at any time through a clearly labeled secondary option, and the game remembers that selection for future runs.

Final Death Presentation Enhanced

The final death sequence has received a more dramatic presentation.

Instead of transitioning instantly into Game Over, the battlefield now remains visible for a brief moment before the transmission begins. A stronger impact effect and shockwave emphasize the final hit.

Players can skip the sequence using fresh keyboard, mouse, or controller input. Holding buttons before dying will no longer accidentally skip the animation.

The Game Over artwork also receives a visual upgrade. The repeated geometric signal has been replaced by 30 unique luminous signal cores, each featuring different pulse, orbit, spin, echo, and movement effects.

Tactical Draft Makes Smarter Choices

Tactical Draft now avoids presenting upgrades that provide no real benefit.

If direct damage has already reached its maximum value, the system replaces ineffective damage-only augments with useful alternatives.

Mixed upgrades still appear whenever secondary bonuses remain valuable.

The interface also now clearly displays DIRECT DAMAGE CAP REACHED, helping players understand why additional damage is unavailable while still showing any genuine stat trade-offs.

Run Reports Easier to Read

The Combat section inside the Run Report has been redesigned.

Larger text and a cleaner two-column layout improve readability across standard, compact, and high-resolution displays.

Eight Languages Fully Supported

The update also expands localization across all supported interface languages.

The following content has now been fully translated:

  • Run mode briefings
  • Pilot Orders
  • Overrun explanations
  • Launch rules
  • Rewards
  • Restrictions
  • Tactical Draft cap messaging

Supported languages include:

  • English
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Simplified Chinese

Tyrian the Great Joins Nova Swarm

One of the game’s bosses has also received a new identity.

The boss previously known as Ro ro ro is now called Tyrian the Great.

According to the developers, the name honors community member Tyrian, whose detailed bug reports and gameplay feedback helped improve Nova Swarm. His observations often identified not only problems but the exact moments and mechanics that caused them.

Within the game’s lore, the Swarm misunderstands those reports and creates a phase-shifting Mirror Hive examiner built from stolen debriefs. The result is Tyrian the Great, a boss designed to study player behavior and punish predictable strategies.

Final Thoughts

This Nova Swarm update focuses less on adding new gameplay systems and more on polishing nearly every aspect of the experience. The 50 new Cabinet Wonders greatly expand the game’s lore, while improvements to controls, Tactical Draft, combat readability, rewards, localization, and boss encounters make every run smoother.

Players returning to Nova Swarm should notice a more refined experience without changing the core gameplay that defines the game.
