Steam Free-to-Keep Adds “Dino Running from a Furry” and More Limited Giveaways

Steam has launched another wave of Free-to-Keep promotions, giving players the chance to permanently claim several games at no cost for a limited time. Leading the latest batch is the unusual indie title Dino running from a Furry, an endless runner that players can add to their Steam libraries for free until May 30 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET.

As with previous Free-to-Keep campaigns, any game claimed before the deadline remains permanently attached to the user’s account.

The latest promotion once again highlights Steam’s growing focus on smaller indie experiences, meme-driven titles, and short-session arcade games that often gain visibility through social media trends and community curiosity.

What Is Dino Running from a Furry?

Dino running from a Furry is a simple endless runner centered around a small dinosaur character attempting to escape from what appears to be a person wearing a fursuit. Gameplay revolves around collecting coins, dodging obstacles, chasing high scores, and unlocking cosmetic customizations for the dinosaur.

The game uses a colorful visual style and relies heavily on quick, one-button gameplay mechanics designed for short casual sessions.

Despite previously selling for around $3, the title currently displays a 100% positive user rating on Steam. However, some players have questioned the authenticity of those reviews due to the unusually perfect score and the game’s relatively limited gameplay depth.

Even so, the title has quickly become one of the more talked-about giveaways simply because of its bizarre concept and meme-worthy presentation.

More Free-to-Keep Games Are Expected

The current promotion wave appears to be expanding throughout the remainder of May. Several additional titles have already been linked to upcoming or ongoing Free-to-Keep campaigns, including:

  • Warhammer 40K: Gladius – Relics of War
  • Bunny Hurling
  • Drift86
  • IQ Under Construction
  • Bunny Guys

Some of these giveaways may rotate in at different times before the end of the month, continuing Steam’s recent trend of offering smaller games and niche titles for permanent ownership.

For many players, these promotions have become an easy way to build up large Steam libraries without spending money, even if some of the games are only played briefly.

Horror Fans Also Get a Limited-Time Offer

Alongside the endless runner promotion, Terrors to Unveil – Day Off is currently available as a Free-to-Keep title until May 19 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET.

The horror game revolves around a seemingly relaxing cottage getaway that quickly turns dark, fitting into the growing wave of indie psychological horror releases appearing on Steam over the past few years.

Unlike Free Weekends, this title remains permanently owned once claimed before the deadline expires.

Free Weekend Events Continue Across Steam

Steam’s separate Free Weekend promotions are also active through May 17–18, allowing players temporary access to several larger titles without permanently claiming them.

Current Free Weekend games include:

  • GreedFall: The Dying World
  • Astral Ascent
  • Make Way
  • Misery
  • V Rising

Most of these games are also receiving temporary discounts during the event, encouraging players to purchase them after testing the free trial period.

The combination of Free-to-Keep offers and rotating Free Weekend events has become one of Steam’s most effective methods for boosting visibility for both indie and mid-sized releases.

Steam’s Giveaway Strategy Keeps Growing

Over the past few years, Steam has steadily increased the frequency of limited-time giveaways and trial weekends. While many of the titles involved are smaller indie projects, the promotions consistently generate traffic, social media discussion, and sudden spikes in player activity.

For developers, these campaigns can dramatically increase visibility overnight. For players, it creates an easy opportunity to try unusual games they otherwise might never have touched.

Whether it’s major strategy titles like Warhammer 40K: Gladius or strange meme-driven projects like Dino running from a Furry, Steam’s latest giveaway push once again proves that even the weirdest games can attract attention when the price drops to free.
