Nintendo has released another major content update for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, continuing the company’s ongoing push to grow its retro gaming library throughout 2026. The latest update introduces several additional classic games across multiple retro platforms, giving longtime Nintendo fans even more titles to revisit on modern hardware.
This newest expansion focuses heavily on older Nintendo systems, including additional support for the Virtual Boy lineup — something many players never expected to see receive modern attention from Nintendo again. Alongside the Virtual Boy additions, more Game Boy Advance content has also been added to the service.
Virtual Boy Classics Return
The biggest talking point from the latest Nintendo Switch Online update is the continued expansion of the Virtual Boy catalog. Nintendo has now added more titles from the platform to the Expansion Pack tier, including Mario Clash and Mario’s Tennis.
The Virtual Boy originally launched in the mid-1990s and became one of Nintendo’s shortest-lived consoles. Despite its commercial failure at the time, the company has recently started reviving parts of its library for modern audiences through Nintendo Switch Online.
For many longtime fans, seeing Virtual Boy support continue to grow feels like one of Nintendo’s most unexpected retro decisions in years.
More Content for Expansion Pack Subscribers
Nintendo is also continuing to strengthen the value of the Expansion Pack subscription. Over the past year, the service has steadily evolved beyond basic NES and SNES libraries by adding Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, Sega Genesis, and now more experimental retro platforms.
Players subscribed to the higher subscription tier are now gaining access to a much broader collection of Nintendo history compared to the early years of the service.
Nintendo appears focused on keeping monthly updates flowing regularly, especially as competition in the subscription gaming market continues increasing across PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
Retro Gaming Remains a Major Focus
Retro gaming continues to be one of Nintendo’s strongest advantages. While competitors focus heavily on large live-service titles and subscription catalogs filled with newer releases, Nintendo continues leaning into nostalgia and preservation of older franchises.
The company has also seen growing demand from players wanting older games preserved digitally instead of being locked away on aging hardware.
With Nintendo continuing to expand the service month after month, many fans are now hoping additional GameCube, DS, and Wii titles could eventually appear on Nintendo Switch Online in the future.
