Pokémon 30th Anniversary Collection Sells Out Instantly

The 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise continues to build momentum throughout 2026, and the latest merchandise drop has proven just how strong that demand still is. A limited-edition Pokémon 30th Anniversary collection launched at Target on May 2, and it didn’t take long before shelves were cleared out.

The collection included a mix of apparel and lifestyle products such as themed jackets, keyboards, and water bottles, all inspired by the original Kanto-era designs. However, for many fans, actually getting their hands on these items proved nearly impossible.

Limited Stock Leaves Fans Empty-Handed

Reports from shoppers indicate that supply was extremely limited from the start. Some stores allegedly received only a handful of key items, with one widely shared account claiming just five Kanto starter jackets were available in total—one per size.

Multiple buyers across different locations echoed similar experiences, suggesting the shortage wasn’t isolated to a single store. The result was immediate sellouts, long before many fans even had a chance to browse the collection.

Resellers Drive Prices Above Retail

As expected with high-demand drops, the secondary market reacted quickly. Items from the collection began appearing on resale platforms like eBay within hours.

The Kanto starter jacket, originally priced at $129.99, is already being listed for well over retail, in some cases exceeding a $100 markup. This mirrors the ongoing issues seen with Pokémon Trading Card releases, where scalping continues to disrupt availability for regular buyers.

Online Release Offers Another Chance

For those who missed the in-store launch, there is still a narrow window of opportunity. The collection is scheduled to go live online via Target’s website on May 3 at 9 a.m. ET, although expectations are that stock will disappear just as quickly.

Meanwhile, the official Pokémon Center store remains another potential option, as it continues to rotate and restock anniversary-themed merchandise throughout the year.

Anniversary Demand Shows No Signs of Slowing

The Pokémon brand, which began in 1996 with its original Game Boy releases, continues to demonstrate massive global appeal even three decades later. The rapid sellout of this collection highlights not only nostalgia-driven demand but also the growing challenge of limited supply and reseller interference.

With more anniversary content and merchandise expected throughout 2026, fans may need to stay alert—and act fast—if they want to secure upcoming releases.
