Pokémon TCG Pocket is preparing a significant update that removes multiple progression systems in favor of a more streamlined approach. Dex Missions and Emblem Tickets — previously central to unlocking cosmetic rewards — are being phased out entirely, with a new system focused purely on card collection.
The changes are expected to arrive alongside the next expansion, currently anticipated around April 28, marking one of the most impactful structural updates since the game’s launch.
Dex Missions and Tickets Are Being Removed
The current system revolves around completing Dex Missions to earn Emblem Tickets, which can then be spent in the shop to unlock themed Emblems, covers, and backdrops. That entire loop is now being removed.
Once the update goes live, both Dex Missions and Emblem Tickets will be scrapped. Any remaining tickets will lose their function, and the mission-based progression tied to them will no longer exist.
This effectively eliminates one layer of grind and removes the need for players to manually claim or spend rewards tied to expansions.
Emblems Now Unlock Automatically Through Card Collection
In place of tickets and missions, Pokémon TCG Pocket is introducing a direct progression system tied to collecting cards from each expansion.
Instead of earning currency, players will now unlock Emblems automatically once they reach specific collection milestones within a set. These thresholds vary depending on the expansion, generally ranging between 50 and 150 collected cards.
Players who have already met these requirements will receive their Emblems retroactively once the update goes live, ensuring no progress is lost during the transition.
Expansion Thresholds Define Progression
Each expansion will have its own requirement for unlocking Emblems, reinforcing the idea that progression is now tied purely to collection depth rather than external objectives.
Some sets require larger investments, such as Genetic Apex and Mega Rising, which sit at the top end of the scale. Others, including Mythical Island, Triumphant Light, and several newer expansions, use lower thresholds to make rewards more accessible.
This system creates a more predictable and transparent progression path, where players know exactly what is required without relying on rotating missions or limited-time objectives.
Cosmetics Shift to Collection-Based Rewards
Cosmetic items are also being folded into this new system. Covers and backdrops — previously purchased using Emblem Tickets — will now unlock automatically once a player collects at least 40 cards from a given expansion.
This change removes the need for any form of currency when it comes to cosmetics, aligning them with the same collection-based progression as Emblems.
Remaining Unknowns and Additional Features
While the update clarifies how standard Emblems and cosmetics will function, some details remain unclear.
There has been no confirmation on whether Secret Emblems — typically tied to specific themed collections — will follow the same rules or retain unique unlock conditions.
Additionally, the update mentions new animations tied to registering cards in the Card Dex. It is currently unknown whether these enhancements apply to the overall interface or individual card interactions.
A Clear Shift Toward Simplicity
This overhaul signals a deliberate move toward simplifying Pokémon TCG Pocket’s progression systems. By removing missions, tickets, and manual reward claiming, the game is reducing friction and focusing entirely on what players already do: opening packs and collecting cards.
The core loop remains unchanged, but the path to rewards is now more direct, transparent, and automatic.
With regular monthly events still continuing and new expansions like Mega Shine already rolling out, this update positions Pokémon TCG Pocket for a smoother and more accessible experience moving forward.
