Pokémon GO May Community Day: Lechonk Takes the Spotlight

Niantic has confirmed the next Community Day for Pokémon GO, and this time the spotlight lands on a fan-favorite from the Paldea region. May’s event will center around Lechonk, offering players a fresh opportunity to hunt shinies, stack bonuses, and evolve for exclusive moves.

Event Timing and Featured Pokémon

The May Community Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, running from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. During this window, Lechonk will appear far more frequently in the wild, making it easier for players to collect Candy, hunt for high-IV variants, and secure its shiny form.

Lechonk, originally introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, is a Normal-type Pokémon that evolves into Oinkologne at level 18. Notably, Oinkologne features distinct male and female forms, adding an extra layer of collection appeal for completionists.

Exclusive Move and Evolution Bonus

Players who evolve Lechonk into Oinkologne during the event — or within four hours after it ends — will unlock a special move. Oinkologne will learn the fast attack Mud Slap, which offers improved performance in both Trainer Battles and raid scenarios.

This limited-time evolution window continues the standard Community Day formula, rewarding players who actively participate during the event period rather than delaying progression.

Event Bonuses and Increased Rewards

As expected, the event comes packed with bonuses designed to maximize progression and efficiency. Egg hatch distance will be reduced to one quarter, allowing players to hatch more Pokémon with less walking. Catching Pokémon will grant double Candy, making it significantly easier to stockpile resources for evolutions and powering up.

Incense activated during the event will last for three hours, ensuring a steady flow of spawns even while stationary. Players above level 31 will also benefit from an increased chance of obtaining Candy XL, which is essential for maxing out Pokémon for endgame content.

Lure Modules placed at PokéStops will attract more Lechonk, increasing the likelihood of encountering shiny variants or special background versions tied to the event.

Special Research and Paid Content

A paid Special Research ticket will be available in the in-game shop, offering additional rewards and encounters for players who want to go deeper into the event. These tickets typically include extra encounters, items, and narrative elements that expand on the featured Pokémon.

While optional, this content has become a consistent part of Community Day events, catering to players looking for more structured progression during the limited-time window.

Recent and Upcoming Event Context

May’s Community Day follows April’s event, which featured Tinkatink and its evolution line. That event introduced the powerful move Gigaton Hammer, reinforcing the trend of exclusive attacks tied to Community Day evolutions.

Looking ahead, the event calendar remains busy. On April 28, the Steeled Resolve event will bring back Meltan while also introducing Orthworm into the game. Prior to that, the GO Bigger event featured Gigantamax Pokémon such as Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Gengar in Max Battle encounters.

Why This Community Day Matters

Lechonk may not be a meta-defining powerhouse, but its popularity, unique evolution forms, and shiny potential make it a strong draw for collectors and casual players alike. Combined with valuable bonuses like reduced hatch distance and increased Candy gains, the event provides an efficient opportunity to progress across multiple areas of the game.

For players looking to prepare, stocking up on Poké Balls, clearing storage space, and planning evolution timing will be key to getting the most out of the event window.
