Resident Evil 1 Remake Rumored Again as Capcom Expands Long-Term Remake Plans

A new rumor suggests that Capcom may already be exploring another remake of the original Resident Evil, potentially bringing the iconic Spencer Mansion back once again with modern gameplay systems.

According to a well-known industry leaker, Capcom is reportedly in the early stages of developing a second remake of the original 1996 survival horror classic. While the project is said to be years away from release, the claim has sparked discussion about how the series could evolve after the success of recent remakes.

Because development is still believed to be in its earliest stages, the project could still change significantly or even be cancelled entirely.

Why Resident Evil 1 Might Be Remade Again

The original Resident Evil first launched in 1996 and quickly became one of the most influential horror games ever created. Capcom already remade the game once in 2002, introducing improved visuals, expanded areas, and additional story elements while retaining the classic fixed camera angles.

However, more recent remakes in the series have taken a different direction.

Remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 modernized the gameplay formula with over-the-shoulder camera perspectives, smoother combat mechanics, and redesigned environments. These changes introduced the franchise to a new generation of players while still honoring the original stories.

A new Resident Evil 1 remake would likely follow the same philosophy, updating the Spencer Mansion with modern graphics, controls, and level design.

A More Immersive Spencer Mansion

If the rumor proves accurate, the biggest change would likely involve perspective and gameplay systems.

The original Resident Evil remake relied heavily on fixed camera angles to create tension and atmosphere. While effective at the time, that style differs from the modern approach Capcom has used for the newer remakes.

A modern reinterpretation could introduce either an over-the-shoulder camera similar to Resident Evil 2 and 4 or possibly a first-person perspective like the one used in Resident Evil 7 and Village.

Some fans have suggested that offering both options could be an ideal solution, allowing players to experience the mansion in different ways while keeping the classic survival horror tone intact.

Possible Long-Term Resident Evil Roadmap

The same source behind the rumor also outlined a potential roadmap for future entries and remakes within the franchise.

According to the claim, Capcom’s current internal schedule could include several major releases across the next decade:

  • Code: Veronica remake – targeted around 2027
  • Resident Evil Zero remake – expected around 2028
  • Resident Evil 10 – potentially arriving in 2029

If that sequence holds, a second remake of Resident Evil could arrive sometime around 2030 or 2031, possibly aligning with the franchise’s 35th anniversary.

However, none of these projects have been officially confirmed, and release windows could easily shift as development priorities change.

The Remaining Remakes Capcom Could Tackle

If Capcom continues its remake strategy, several major titles from the series still remain.

Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 are the most obvious candidates, though both present unique challenges.

Resident Evil 5 is heavily built around cooperative gameplay, meaning any remake would likely need to preserve or reinvent that system. Resident Evil 6, meanwhile, remains one of the most divisive entries in the series due to its action-heavy design and complex storylines.

Because of those challenges, Capcom may choose to revisit earlier titles like Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero first before deciding how to approach the later entries.

A Strategy That Has Worked for Capcom

Capcom’s remake strategy has proven highly successful in recent years. Modern versions of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 in particular received strong critical reception and sold millions of copies worldwide.

By combining nostalgia with modern game design, the company has managed to reintroduce classic survival horror experiences to a new generation of players.

If a new Resident Evil 1 remake eventually becomes reality, it could serve as the final piece that brings the entire early franchise timeline into the same modern gameplay style.

For now, however, fans will need to wait for official confirmation before knowing whether the Spencer Mansion will once again reopen its doors.
