Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Confirmed as Ubisoft Reveals Franchise Plans for 2026

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is in development. The project, titled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, was revealed as part of the publisher’s “Assassin’s Creed: Into 2026” update, offering fans their first official look at the long-rumored remake.

While the announcement stops short of revealing gameplay details or a release date, the confirmation finally puts months of speculation to rest and suggests Ubisoft is preparing a broader revival of the franchise over the next few years.

First Look at Black Flag Resynced

The confirmation arrived through newly released concept artwork showing Edward Kenway standing atop a ship’s mast, gazing across the ocean. Alongside the artwork, Ubisoft included a brief teaser message:

“Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new… Keep your spyglass on the horizon.”

Aside from the title Black Flag Resynced and the concept art, Ubisoft has not revealed additional details about the remake. There is currently no information on potential gameplay improvements, visual upgrades, or whether the story will remain identical to the original 2013 release.

However, the confirmation alone marks a major moment for fans of the pirate-themed entry, widely considered one of the most beloved titles in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

How the Black Flag Remake Rumors Started

The official confirmation follows nearly three years of reports suggesting Ubisoft was rebuilding the game from the ground up.

In June 2023, early reports indicated that a full remake of Black Flag had been approved internally. Later that year, additional claims suggested development began around September 2023.

More rumors surfaced in late 2025, when an ESRB listing appeared referencing the name Black Flag Resynced, fueling speculation that the remake was approaching release. At the time, some reports suggested a potential early 2026 launch window.

Recent restructuring efforts within Ubisoft, however, appear to have slowed progress across several projects, making the timeline less certain.

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Roadmap for 2026

Alongside the Black Flag remake confirmation, Ubisoft provided updates on multiple projects currently shaping the future of the franchise.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Nearing Final Support

The recently released Assassin’s Creed Shadows is entering its final stage of post-launch support. Ubisoft indicated that the game’s major updates and live content cycle are approaching their conclusion.

Codename Hexe Moves Forward With New Direction

The mysterious Codename Hexe project was described as a darker and more narrative-focused Assassin’s Creed experience.

The project is now being directed by Jean Guesdon, following the departure of former director Clint Hocking. Ubisoft continues to position Hexe as one of the franchise’s more experimental titles.

Codename Invictus Brings Multiplayer Back

Ubisoft also confirmed progress on Codename Invictus, a new PvP multiplayer game set in the Assassin’s Creed universe.

The project is being led by developers with experience on For Honor, suggesting a strong focus on competitive gameplay systems. Ubisoft hinted that the game may differ significantly from previous rumors surrounding the project.

Assassin’s Creed Jade Still in Development

The mobile title Assassin’s Creed Jade remains in development, and Ubisoft confirmed that cooperative gameplay features are currently being worked on.

Netflix Series and Unity Upgrade

Ubisoft also teased an upcoming reveal for the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed live-action series on Netflix.

Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed Unity will receive a technical update on March 5, 2026, enabling 60 FPS support, giving players a smoother experience on modern hardware.

A Busy Future for Assassin’s Creed

Between a remake of one of the franchise’s most popular titles and multiple new projects in development, Ubisoft appears committed to keeping Assassin’s Creed active across several genres and platforms.

Although Black Flag Resynced remains largely a mystery for now, the confirmation signals that Ubisoft is continuing to invest heavily in both classic entries and new directions for the series.

More information about the remake and other projects is expected to surface later in 2026 as Ubisoft gradually unveils its long-term plans.
