Tiny Foundry has released a new minor update for Nova Swarm, introducing an endless Career Rank system alongside several improvements to tutorials, leaderboards, combat clarity, and the game’s interface.
The update focuses heavily on making Nova Swarm easier to understand, particularly for new players. However, the developer has stressed that these changes are not intended to reduce the pressure or difficulty of surviving a run.
Existing players also have something new to chase, as Career Rank progression no longer comes to an end at Rank 40.
Career Rank Can Now Increase Indefinitely
One of the biggest changes is the introduction of Endless Career Rank.
Previously, Career Rank stopped progressing once players reached Rank 40. Following the update, earned XP will continue increasing Career Rank indefinitely.
However, Rank 40 remains the final gameplay-related milestone. All unlocks, rewards, and combat-power progression still end at that point.
Any ranks earned beyond Rank 40 are purely for status and do not provide additional gameplay advantages. Therefore, longtime players can continue showing their experience without gaining extra power over newer pilots.
Endless Career Rank is also fully supported by the existing progression systems. It is preserved through saves and Steam Cloud and will appear across several areas of the game, including:
- Career displays
- Run-result screens
- Leaderboards
The system effectively gives dedicated players a permanent progression target without changing Nova Swarm’s existing balance.
Nova Swarm Makes the First Run Easier to Understand
Tiny Foundry has also reworked how new pilots are introduced to the game.
Instead of immediately presenting players with a large collection of instructions, Nova Swarm now teaches basic movement and firing while those mechanics are being used.
More advanced mechanics receive similar treatment. Coaching for Phase and Focus now appears when those controls become relevant.
The first-run HUD has also been simplified. Important survival information receives greater priority, reducing the amount of information new players need to process immediately.
Additionally, rival-board pressure will no longer appear during the first run. Instead, that system begins with the second attempt.
This gives new players an opportunity to understand Nova Swarm’s core mechanics before additional competitive pressure enters the experience.
The Game Over and retry presentation has received adjustments as well. The next available action should now be clearer, while players regain control more quickly when starting another attempt.
Top 50 Leaderboards Receive an Overhaul
Leaderboards are another major focus of the update.
Nova Swarm’s leaderboard decks now display the Top 50 with clearer paging and more accurate range labels.
Several pieces of information have also been enlarged to make entries easier to compare. These include pilot names, medals, titles, scores, and Career Ranks.
Tiny Foundry has also addressed several leaderboard presentation problems. The update fixes clipping issues and incorrect entry ranges that could previously appear.
Steam pilots and CPU rival presentation entries are now identified separately as well, making it easier to understand exactly who or what occupies a leaderboard position.
Combat Information Should Be Easier to Read
Nova Swarm can become extremely busy during intense encounters. As a result, the update introduces several changes designed to keep important information visible.
Dense projectile fields and boss warnings can now gently reduce the intensity of decorative background elements. This should make incoming threats easier to track without completely changing the game’s visual presentation.
Critical combat warnings also receive priority over less important messages. This reduces situations where several notifications appear at once and become difficult to read.
Life-loss feedback has been improved too. The game now preserves the direction of the incoming hit, giving players clearer information about what caused the damage.
Wave-clear presentations will also finish before normal combat resumes.
Meanwhile, Compact Tactical Drafts now feature improved spacing and cleaner transitions back into combat.
Timed powerups have received dedicated HUD bands as well. Their timers should no longer collide with other interface elements during busy encounters.
Finally, Overrun should reach its intended opening pressure more consistently following the update.
Additional Interface Problems Fixed
Tiny Foundry has continued cleaning up Nova Swarm’s interface throughout several areas of the game.
Additional text, frame, and focus-state overlaps have been removed from the main menu, Settings, Hangar, and responsive layouts.
Controller navigation has also received improvements through better focus containment.
Furthermore, the developer has stabilized typography used in the first-pilot menus, helping maintain a more consistent presentation across different layouts.
Existing Nova Swarm Progress Will Not Be Reset
Players do not need to worry about the new progression system affecting their existing accomplishments.
Tiny Foundry confirmed that the update does not reset scores, achievements, unlocks, or save data.
That means existing pilots can continue from their current progress while taking advantage of Endless Career Rank and the other improvements.
The developer also thanked the community for its reports, screenshots, and direct feedback, noting that these continue to help make Nova Swarm clearer and easier to learn.
For experienced pilots, Endless Career Rank provides a new long-term number to chase. For newcomers, the improved first-run experience should make learning Nova Swarm less overwhelming without removing the pressure at the heart of the game.
