Roblox has reportedly banned journalist and television personality Chris Hansen after he used the platform during a live demonstration about child safety concerns.
The incident originally took place during CrimeCon in May 2026. However, footage of Hansen’s account being terminated gained wider attention after YouTube creator Schlep published a video covering the situation on August 15.
The timing has once again placed Roblox’s moderation and child safety policies under scrutiny.
Chris Hansen Was Demonstrating Roblox at CrimeCon
During a CrimeCon panel, Hansen logged into Roblox and entered Ro-Meet, an experience that allows players to communicate with random users.
The demonstration was intended to show how easily children could potentially encounter strangers while using Roblox.
During one interaction, another user asked Hansen about Snapchat. Hansen continued the conversation and questioned why the person wanted to move their interaction away from Roblox.
Shortly afterward, Hansen’s Roblox account was terminated.
According to the message displayed on the account, Roblox cited “repeated or serious rule breaking” as the reason for the termination.
The incident was captured during the demonstration and later appeared in Schlep’s August 15 video.
Roblox has not publicly provided a detailed explanation for why Hansen’s account was terminated.
Roblox Continues to Face Child Safety Concerns
The incident comes during a difficult period for Roblox as the company continues to face criticism surrounding child safety.
One major concern raised by critics is the ability for children to communicate with strangers through games and social experiences hosted on the platform. Moving conversations from Roblox to external services such as Snapchat has also become an important part of the wider discussion surrounding online child safety.
Roblox has introduced several measures designed to address these concerns.
In July 2026, the company introduced additional in-game reporting features. Reports involving issues such as bullying, scams, and discrimination can now be directed toward specialized moderation teams.
Players who submit reports can also receive information about the outcome of their complaint.

Hansen was deliberately testing Roblox while discussing potential dangers involving interactions between children and strangers. His account was then removed during that demonstration.
Without a detailed explanation from Roblox, it remains unclear exactly which action triggered the termination or whether an automated moderation system played a role.
The ban therefore raises two separate questions for Roblox.
The first concerns how easily potentially inappropriate conversations can begin or move toward external platforms. The second concerns whether Roblox’s moderation systems can accurately distinguish between potentially harmful behavior and someone documenting or investigating that behavior.
With governments, lawmakers, journalists, and child safety advocates paying increasingly close attention, Roblox’s handling of cases like Hansen’s could face considerably more scrutiny.
