Fortnite appears ready to venture deeper into horror territory with an unexpected crossover. Epic Games is teasing a collaboration with 99 Nights in the Forest, the popular Roblox horror experience, ahead of the launch of Chapter 7 Season 4.
The crossover has only received a brief teaser so far. However, it already points toward one of 99 Nights in the Forest’s most recognizable characters making the jump into Fortnite.
The Deer Is Coming to Fortnite
Prominent Fortnite community member HYPEX shared a short trailer teasing the upcoming collaboration.
The footage begins with Peely peacefully fishing on a lake. Things quickly take a darker turn when the trailer cuts to The Deer, the main antagonist from 99 Nights in the Forest, slowly approaching.
It is currently the only in-game footage connected to the crossover.
While Epic Games has yet to reveal the full contents of the collaboration, the appearance of The Deer strongly suggests that the creature will become a Fortnite skin.
No other cosmetics have been confirmed. That means players should not yet expect additional outfits, Back Blings, Pickaxes, emotes, or other items until Epic provides more information.
What Is 99 Nights in the Forest?
99 Nights in the Forest is a survival horror experience available through Roblox. Players must survive a dangerous forest while gathering resources, building defenses, and dealing with threats that become increasingly dangerous after dark.
The Deer is one of the game’s defining threats and has become closely associated with the experience.
Its appearance in Fortnite is particularly notable because the collaboration brings together content associated with two major gaming platforms.
Fortnite has built an enormous crossover catalog over the years, ranging from video games and movies to television series, musicians, athletes, and other entertainment properties. A collaboration involving a Roblox experience shows that Epic remains willing to look well beyond traditional franchises for new partnerships.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Begins August 20
The 99 Nights in the Forest crossover is expected to arrive alongside Fortnite’s upcoming Override season.
Chapter 7 Season 4 is currently scheduled to begin on August 20, placing the teaser just days ahead of the seasonal transition.
Launching the collaboration around the start of a new season would also give Epic an opportunity to introduce the crossover alongside Fortnite’s larger wave of new content.
However, players should keep their expectations in check for now.
The teaser does not show a dedicated location, gameplay mechanics, weapons, quests, or a larger 99 Nights in the Forest event. At this stage, The Deer is the only crossover element that has been shown.
An Unexpected Fortnite Crossover
Fortnite collaborations are hardly unusual anymore, but 99 Nights in the Forest is certainly one of the more unexpected choices.
Rather than pulling from a major publisher or established entertainment franchise, this crossover reaches into the enormous ecosystem of user-created Roblox experiences.
It could also open the door for similar collaborations in the future if Epic is willing to work with creators behind popular experiences on competing platforms.
For now, though, the mysterious appearance of The Deer is all players have to work with.
With Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override beginning on August 20, it should not take long before Epic Games reveals exactly what 99 Nights in the Forest is bringing to the game.
