EA Sports FC Tactical Shuts Down as EA Continues Mobile Game Closures

EA Sports FC Tactical has officially been shut down, ending support for the turn-based mobile football spin-off just two years after its soft launch. The game was permanently taken offline on May 7, 2026, with all services now disabled across Apple, Google, and Facebook platforms.

Players were already prevented from making in-game purchases prior to the shutdown, signaling the final stage of the game’s retirement process. With servers now offline, the title is no longer playable in any form.

The closure marks another example of EA continuing to reduce support for projects that failed to meet long-term engagement or financial expectations.

A Different Direction for the EA Sports FC Franchise

Unlike the traditional EA Sports FC experience focused on real-time football gameplay, EA Sports FC Tactical attempted something entirely different. The mobile spin-off featured turn-based tactical gameplay, placing more emphasis on positioning, decision-making, and strategic planning rather than fast-paced action.

The project was developed through a partnership between EA and KLab and launched as a soft release in May 2024. However, availability remained limited to select East and Southeast Asian regions including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Although a wider global launch was expected at one point, that release never happened.

Performance and Reception Declined Over Time

Throughout late 2025 and early 2026, criticism surrounding the game continued to grow. Players complained about progression systems, limited updates, and a lack of long-term content support. Interest gradually declined and the title reportedly struggled to maintain a healthy player base.

While the concept itself stood out from EA’s usual football formula, the game ultimately failed to generate the level of success needed to justify continued operation.

The shutdown also reflects the harsh reality surrounding mobile live-service games. Even major franchises backed by large publishers can disappear quickly when player engagement slows down.

EA Continues Removing Older and Underperforming Titles

EA Sports FC Tactical is not the only title being retired this year. EA has already confirmed several additional shutdowns across both mobile and console platforms as part of a broader cleanup of older or underperforming releases.

The following titles are also scheduled to lose support in 2026:

Plants vs. Zombies HD — June 24

The classic mobile title will be removed from Apple platforms later this year.

Madden NFL 23 — July 13

Online services for Madden NFL 23 will shut down across Xbox, PlayStation, EA App, and Steam platforms.

NHL 22 and NHL 23 — August 31

Both NHL entries are also scheduled to lose online functionality before the end of summer.

The growing list shows EA continuing to streamline its active portfolio while focusing attention on newer releases and stronger-performing live-service projects.

Strange Timing Alongside EA Sports FC26

The shutdown also arrives during a high-profile moment for the franchise itself. Just days before Tactical disappeared, EA Sports FC26 became one of the headline PlayStation Plus monthly games for May 2026.

That contrast highlights the current direction of EA’s football strategy. While the mainline franchise continues receiving major promotion and platform support, smaller experimental projects appear to face far less long-term protection if performance targets are missed.

For many players, the closure of EA Sports FC Tactical serves as another reminder of how fragile modern live-service and mobile games can be — especially when they rely entirely on online functionality to exist.
