RuneScape: Dragonwilds has revealed an ambitious roadmap stretching into 2028, bringing new skills, major story expansions, additional regions, and official mod support. Jagex plans to expand the survival adventure significantly, with several familiar RuneScape features making their way into Ashenfall.
Players can expect Prayer in December 2026, followed by Hunter and Slayer throughout 2027. Meanwhile, the upcoming Blood Crystal Saga will introduce a new storyline involving the elves and their struggle following Kuldra’s defeat.
The developers also plan to deliver monthly content updates, improvements, and additional customization options.
Prayer Arrives in December 2026
The next major update for RuneScape: Dragonwilds is called Luminance, and it is scheduled for December 2026.
This free update will introduce the Prayer skill, giving players additional ways to survive dangerous encounters. Much like its counterpart in traditional RuneScape, Prayer will focus primarily on combat.
Players will gain access to protective abilities and useful buffs that can make difficult battles more manageable. These additions should provide more flexibility when fighting powerful enemies or exploring dangerous locations.
However, Prayer is only part of the update.
Luminance will also introduce elves to Ashenfall, laying the groundwork for the next major chapter in the game’s story.
Blood Crystal Saga Begins in Early 2027
The Blood Crystal Saga will begin in early 2027 with its first chapter, Song of Rebellion.
This storyline follows a group of rebel elves attempting to escape the Nos Clan after the defeat of Kuldra. Their arrival will introduce new conflicts and expand the history surrounding Ashenfall.
Rather than delivering the entire storyline through a single update, Jagex intends to develop the saga across multiple releases.
This approach gives the developers room to introduce new characters, locations, and quests while gradually expanding the narrative.
For players interested in RuneScape lore, the upcoming saga could become one of Dragonwilds’ most important additions.
Hunter and Slayer Join Dragonwilds in 2027
Two more recognizable RuneScape skills are scheduled to arrive during 2027.
Hunter Brings Wildlife Tracking and Trapping
Hunter will allow players to track and capture creatures throughout Ashenfall.
As players improve their Hunter level, they will unlock additional trapping methods and gain access to different wildlife.
Jagex has already teased familiar creatures such as kebbits and implings, suggesting that Dragonwilds will borrow several recognizable elements from the original RuneScape experience.
The skill could also provide another reason to explore the wilderness beyond gathering resources and fighting enemies.
Slayer Introduces Specialized Monster Hunting
Slayer will focus on defeating specific monsters through assigned hunting tasks.
Players familiar with RuneScape will recognize the concept. Certain enemies may require specialized equipment, while others could demand a higher Slayer level before players can defeat them effectively.
Moss Giants are among the familiar enemies teased for future content.
Adding Slayer could give combat-focused players more long-term objectives, particularly those who enjoy hunting increasingly dangerous creatures.
Jagex has not announced exact release dates for Hunter or Slayer.
New Regions, Equipment, and Monthly Content
The roadmap goes beyond skills and story expansions.
Jagex intends to continue expanding Ashenfall with new areas, quests, equipment, and additional activities. Monthly side content will help keep players occupied between larger updates.
Quality-of-life improvements will also remain part of the development schedule.
Housing enthusiasts have something to look forward to as well. The developers have teased decorations inspired by Prifddinas, the iconic elven city from RuneScape.
These additions should offer players more opportunities to personalize their homes and settlements.
The combination of new activities and regular improvements suggests that Jagex wants Dragonwilds to remain an evolving survival experience rather than a game that receives only occasional major expansions.
Official Mod Support Coming Through CurseForge
One of the more interesting announcements involves official mod support.
Jagex plans to partner with CurseForge during 2027, introducing tools that will allow the community to create and share custom content.
The planned integration includes an in-game mod browser and installer, making it easier for players to discover and manage modifications without manually handling files.
Official modding tools could significantly extend Dragonwilds’ lifespan.
Community-created content has helped many survival games maintain active player bases long after release. Giving players the ability to customize their experience could open the door to new gameplay mechanics, challenges, and creative projects.
The exact capabilities of the modding tools have not yet been detailed.
Plundered Gods Saga Confirmed for 2028
Jagex is already looking beyond the Blood Crystal Saga.
The studio has confirmed that another major storyline, titled the Plundered Gods Saga, is planned for 2028.
Although details remain limited, the announcement confirms that the developers intend to continue Ashenfall’s narrative beyond the upcoming elven storyline.
This longer development schedule also gives players an idea of how much content Jagex hopes to introduce over the coming years.
However, as with any long-term roadmap, planned features and release windows could change during development.
Dragonwilds Has Plenty Ahead
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is gradually building its own identity while maintaining connections to the franchise that inspired it.
The addition of Prayer, Hunter, and Slayer should make its progression systems more familiar to longtime RuneScape players. Meanwhile, the Blood Crystal Saga and future expansions promise more reasons to explore Ashenfall.
Official mod support could become another major milestone, especially if the community receives enough freedom to create substantial custom content.
For now, the next important date is December 2026, when the free Luminance update is expected to introduce Prayer and begin setting the stage for the Blood Crystal Saga.
With content planned through 2028, Jagex appears committed to supporting Dragonwilds for several more years.
