Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Ranked Battle Season 41 Marks Final Gen 9 Competitive Ladder

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are officially entering their final Generation 9 competitive chapter. Ranked Battle Season 41 launches on April 1 and will serve as the last seasonal ladder refresh for Gen 9.

In-game notifications confirmed the shift on March 1. Once Season 41 begins, there will be no further monthly resets. Instead, the ladder will continue indefinitely under the same rule set until Nintendo’s online services for the Switch family are discontinued.

No More Monthly Resets or Placement Rewards

One of the biggest competitive changes is the removal of seasonal rankings and end-of-season rewards. Since no future seasons are planned:

  • Monthly ranking resets are ending
  • Placement-based end-of-season rewards are being discontinued
  • The recurring meta shake-up incentive tied to new seasons is being retired

Players can still queue for Ranked Battles under the established rules, but the competitive rhythm that defined Gen 9’s monthly cycles is coming to a close.

For many competitive players, this marks the end of structured seasonal progression in Scarlet & Violet.

Regulation Set I: Format Breakdown

Season 41 will continue using Regulation Set I, one of the most expansive formats seen in Gen 9. The rules allow a wide pool of Pokémon while maintaining some competitive restrictions.

Allowed Pokémon

  • All Pokémon obtainable in Scarlet & Violet
  • Pokémon transferred via Pokémon Home
  • Mythical Pokémon are banned
  • Teams may include up to two Legendaries

Eligible Pokédex pools include:

  • First 400 entries from Paldea
  • First 242 entries from the Blueberry Pokédex
  • First 200 entries from the Kitakami Pokédex

Selected Alolan and Galarian forms are also permitted.

Core Battle Rules

  • All Pokémon are automatically set to Level 50
  • Duplicate held items are banned
  • All Terastallization types remain legal

This ensures high-level competitive depth remains intact despite the end of seasonal resets.

Official Battle Timers

Season 41 retains the standard competitive timer structure:

TypeDuration
Total Time20 minutes
Player Time7 minutes
Team Preview90 seconds
Turn Time45 seconds

These timers continue to balance strategic depth with match pacing.

How Long Will Ranked Battles Stay Online?

While Season 41 is the final Gen 9 ladder refresh, Ranked Battles themselves are not shutting down.

Historically, Pokémon titles maintain online functionality as long as Nintendo’s backend infrastructure supports the hardware. Because the original Switch and Switch 2 share online backend architecture, multiplayer support could realistically continue for many years.

As of early 2026, some analysts suggest services could persist well beyond a decade — though no official timeline has been provided.

Looking Ahead to Generation 10

The competitive future now shifts toward Generation 10. Pokémon Winds and Waves were announced on February 27 with a planned 2027 release window.

However, Ranked Battle details for Gen 10 have not yet been revealed, leaving competitive players waiting for clarity on the next structured ladder system.

For now, Season 41 represents the final chapter of Gen 9’s evolving meta — a permanent competitive environment where the ladder remains, but the seasonal cycle ends.
