Pokemon GO is preparing for one of its biggest celebration months yet, as the franchise marks its 30th anniversary and the mobile game itself approaches its 10-year milestone. As part of the upcoming Anniversary All Out event, Mewtwo is officially returning — and this time, players won’t need to rely on Raids to catch it.
With the Precious Paths season ending on March 2, Pokemon GO is transitioning into its new Memories in Motion era. March is shaping up to be a major month for long-time Trainers, especially those who have been waiting years for another opportunity to secure one of the franchise’s most iconic Legendary Pokémon.
Mewtwo Returns After Four Years
Mewtwo has not been widely available outside of special Raid rotations for several years, making this return particularly significant. The upcoming Anniversary All Out event, scheduled for March 7 to March 9, will give players a fresh opportunity to encounter the powerful Psychic-type without participating in Raid Battles.
This is a notable shift from previous distributions, where Mewtwo was primarily locked behind high-tier Raids requiring coordinated groups of players. By removing that barrier for a limited time, the event opens the door for more casual Trainers to add Mewtwo to their Pokédex.
For returning players or those who missed earlier Raid cycles, this could be one of the most accessible opportunities in recent years.
Anniversary All Out Event Details
To celebrate Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, the Anniversary All Out event will dramatically increase wild spawns. According to the developer, “almost all” Pokémon currently released in Pokemon GO will appear during the event window.
This creates a rare opportunity for players to:
- Complete missing Pokédex entries
- Hunt for rare or previously event-exclusive Pokémon
- Farm Candy and XL Candy for long-term progression
However, not every Pokémon will be available in the wild. Certain species will remain restricted due to their unique mechanics.
Notable Exceptions
Despite the broad spawn pool, some Pokémon will remain locked behind their existing systems:
- Kecleon (still tied to PokéStop interactions)
- Smeargle (Photo Bomb encounters)
- Scatterbug (Postcard system)
- Select Mythicals and Legendaries
While Pokémon such as Cosmog and Zygarde will remain unavailable through standard wild encounters, Mewtwo stands out as the major exception — giving players something truly special to chase during the celebration.
A Big Month for Pokemon GO
2026 is shaping up to be a defining year for Pokemon GO. In addition to celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary, the mobile game is approaching its own 10-year anniversary — a rare milestone in live-service gaming.
The transition into the Memories in Motion era suggests a new thematic direction for the coming season, and events like Anniversary All Out indicate that the developers are aiming to bring both nostalgia and accessibility to the forefront.
For veteran Trainers, this event is a throwback moment. For newer players, it’s a chance to secure one of the most powerful and recognizable Pokémon in the series without the usual barriers.
With only a three-day window, players will want to prepare in advance — especially if Mewtwo’s availability outside of Raids proves to be as limited as expected.
