Season 6 of Ranked Battles has officially begun in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, bringing a full rank reset, new Mega Stone rewards, and several quality-of-life improvements aimed at competitive players.
Trainers looking to participate must update their game to version 2.0.1 and connect online before entering Ranked Battles.
Season 6 Timeline and Entry Requirements
Season 6 runs during the following period:
- Start: January 29 at 1:00 AM Eastern
- End: February 18 at 8:59 PM Eastern
At the beginning of the season, all trainers are reset to Rank Z, creating a fresh competitive climb for every participant.
Access to Ranked Battles requires:
- Online connection
- Game updated to version 2.0.1
Without the update, Ranked Battles will remain unavailable.
Season 6 Competitive Rewards
Season 6 introduces both new and returning Mega Stone rewards tied directly to rank progression.
Rank S Reward
Trainers who reach Rank S will receive:
- Swampertite Mega Stone
This Mega Stone allows Swampert to Mega Evolve, significantly increasing its physical Attack and reinforcing its role as a powerful competitive option.
Rank U Mega Stone Reissues
Players climbing through Ranks Y to U gain another opportunity to earn previously released Mega Stones.
Reissued Mega Stones at Rank U include:
- Greninjite
- Delphoxite
- Chesnaughtite
- Baxcalibrite
- Sceptilite
This system gives newer or returning players a second chance to complete their Mega Stone collection.
Standard Ranked Season Rewards
In addition to Mega Stones, Season 6 features the usual tier-based item rewards.
Examples include:
Rank A
- Gold Bottle Cap ×3
- Bottle Cap ×5
- Seed of Mastery ×3
- Big Nugget ×1
Ranks B–E
- Gold Bottle Cap ×2
- Bottle Cap ×3
- Seed of Mastery ×2
- Nugget ×2
Lower Ranks (F and below)
Progressively smaller amounts of Bottle Caps, Gold Bottle Caps, Seeds of Mastery, and Nuggets are awarded depending on final placement.
These rewards continue to support long-term team optimization and competitive preparation.
Eligible Pokémon and Battle Rules
Season 6 Ranked Battles follow strict team-building rules.
Pokédex Eligibility
Only Pokémon from the following ranges may be used:
- Lumiose Pokédex: 001–232
- Hyperspace Pokédex: 001–132
Legendary Restrictions
Teams may include only one of the following special Legendary Pokémon:
- Xerneas
- Yveltal
- Zygarde
- Mewtwo
- Kyogre
- Groudon
- Rayquaza
This limitation is designed to prevent overcentralized team compositions while still allowing strategic Legendary usage.
Additional Rules
- No duplicate Pokédex numbers on the same team
- All Pokémon are automatically synced to Level 50
- Items and stats are standardized for Ranked Battles
Despite Legendary restrictions, strong non-Legendary Pokémon such as Tyranitar, Metagross, and Dragonite remain highly viable in the current meta.
Version 2.0.1 Quality-of-Life Improvements
The Season 6 launch follows the version 2.0.1 update, released on January 21, which introduced several changes aimed at reducing preparation time.
Key improvements include:
- Mega Shard storage increased from 999 to 9,999
- Bulk purchasing added for berries and feathers
These adjustments significantly streamline EV training and team building for competitive players.
Strong Commercial Performance Continues
Pokemon Legends: Z-A continues to perform strongly on the market.
Within four months of its October 2025 launch:
- The Nintendo Switch 2 physical edition surpassed one million copies sold in Japan
- Combined console sales placed the game as Japan’s second-best-selling Nintendo title in late December 2025, behind Mario Kart World
The continued success highlights sustained player engagement as new competitive seasons roll out.
