Rockstar Games has issued an official statement following a small fire that occurred at its Edinburgh headquarters earlier today, confirming that no employees were injured and that the studio remains fully operational.
The Edinburgh location, widely known as Rockstar North, serves as the main development hub for new Grand Theft Auto titles, including the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. Despite the incident, the studio confirmed that development work has not been disrupted.
Fire Reported in Early Morning Hours
The incident took place in the early hours of the morning after a malfunction was reported in one of the building’s boiler rooms. Emergency services were dispatched shortly after 5 AM GMT and remained on site for several hours to secure the area.
As the fire occurred before normal working hours, the building was believed to be largely unoccupied at the time. Authorities confirmed that the structure remains intact, allowing the workday to continue as normal once the situation was resolved.
Rockstar expressed appreciation for the rapid response and reassured fans that staff safety was never compromised.
GTA 6 Development Remains Unaffected
In its statement, Rockstar confirmed that all employees are safe and that the studio continues to operate without disruption. The company emphasized that the incident will not impact the ongoing development of Grand Theft Auto 6.
This reassurance arrives at a time when global attention remains firmly fixed on Rockstar, as fans continue waiting for the next mainline entry in the Grand Theft Auto series after more than a decade.
A Turbulent Period for the Studio
The incident comes during a challenging chapter for Rockstar. Toward the end of 2025, the studio reportedly dismissed more than 30 employees following alleged internal information leaks related to upcoming and unannounced projects.
While unrelated to today’s fire, those events followed the major security breach in 2022, when a large volume of early Grand Theft Auto 6 footage surfaced online after unauthorized access to internal systems.
Despite these setbacks, Rockstar has continued development and maintained its release plans.
Special Playtest Reportedly Planned by Take-Two
Separately, reports have surfaced suggesting that Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has arranged a private internal playtest allowing a terminally ill fan to experience Grand Theft Auto 6 ahead of its official release.
The situation gained attention after a game developer shared that a close family member, given a limited life expectancy, was a lifelong Grand Theft Auto fan. According to follow-up claims, Take-Two leadership reportedly reached out directly and approved the request. The post was later removed, but the story has since resonated strongly within the gaming community.
Looking Ahead
While the fire raised short-term concern among fans, Rockstar’s confirmation makes it clear that the studio remains on track. With no injuries, minimal disruption, and development continuing as planned, attention now returns to what many consider one of the most anticipated video game releases of all time.
