Battlefield Studios has announced a delay for Season 2 of both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, pushing the new season to February 17 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. As a result, Season 1 will now continue beyond its original end date of January 20, giving players additional time to progress through current content while the team finalizes the next major update.
The studio says the decision is driven by a need for extra development time to refine Season 2 based on ongoing community feedback.
What Players Get During the Season 1 Extension
To bridge the gap until Season 2 launches, Battlefield Studios is rolling out an extension update starting January 20. This update is designed to keep momentum going and will include:
- Gameplay improvements and balance tweaks
- New weekly challenges
- A limited-time Bonus Path
- Continued access to the Season 1 Battle Pass
These additions aim to ensure players still have meaningful progression and fresh objectives during the extended season.
Frostfire Bonus Path Arrives January 27
A highlight of the extension period is the Frostfire Bonus Path, launching on January 27. This optional progression track runs alongside the Season 1 Battle Pass and offers both free and premium rewards, including:
- Weapon customization packages
- A new Soldier skin
- XP boosts to accelerate progression
All Frostfire progress is earned exclusively through Weekly Challenges. There are no separate Bonus Challenges, keeping progression straightforward and accessible.
Events, Rewards, and Double XP Weekends
To further sweeten the extension window, Battlefield Studios has scheduled several incentives:
- Valentine’s Day-themed in-game celebrations
- A new round of Daily Login Rewards
- Multiple Double XP weekends to help players catch up or finish their Battle Pass tiers
These additions are meant to keep the player base engaged while the studio puts the final touches on Season 2.
Live Testing and a Clearer Roadmap Ahead
The studio also confirmed that Battlefield Labs will remain active throughout the extension period. This allows players to test near-final builds and provide feedback before major updates go live.
More detailed information about Season 2 and a broader 2026 roadmap is expected to be shared in February, alongside the season’s official launch.
Context: Strong Start, Focus on Long-Term Recovery
Battlefield 6 launched strongly in October, backed by a major Season 1 rollout that introduced the franchise’s first Battle Pass, a new map, additional weapons, and the free-to-play REDSEC experience. Despite that momentum, the game has since seen a steep decline in Steam activity.
With this delay, Battlefield Studios is signaling a shift toward longer-term stability—prioritizing polish, player feedback, and transparency over rushing seasonal content out the door.
