Roblox to Retire Legacy System Badges in Early 2026

Major Profile Changes Planned as Platform Targets “Simplified” Identity Features

Roblox has announced that a wide set of legacy System Badges—older badges that can no longer be earned—will be removed from user profiles in early 2026. Despite the platform’s remarkable growth in 2025, with 151+ million daily active users and 381 million monthly users, the company is preparing for one of its most visible profile overhauls in recent years.

What’s Changing

Legacy System Badges, which many long-time players have kept as historical markers of their time on the platform, will no longer appear on profiles. Roblox says these outdated badges “don’t reflect the ways users and creators express themselves today,” describing the removal as part of a broader effort to modernize profile presentation.

According to the announcement, the goal is to “simplify the Profile experience” and free space for future features. These upcoming profile additions are expected to highlight user identity and creator presence, though Roblox notes that testing will be required before introducing anything new.

What Will Remain on Profiles

Roblox emphasized that the following badge categories are not being removed:

  • Developer-created game badges
  • Official Verification Badges
  • Administrator (Roblox staff) Badges

This means achievements tied to gameplay and official verification remain safe, while legacy system-based achievements are the only set affected.

Community Response: Unease and Skepticism

The announcement has sparked frustration across the community. Many players fear this decision marks the beginning of a larger shift away from user personalization.

A highly upvoted comment on Reddit summed up the concern:
“There is NO WAY they aren’t trying to remove all charm at this point.”

Some users see the move as the loss of Roblox history—removing badges that have represented time, loyalty, and early participation on the platform.

Larger Platform Context: Growth, Lawsuits, and Safety Pressure

The badge removal comes during a complex year for Roblox. While engagement numbers remain enormous—Brookhaven RP alone has surpassed 75.4 billion lifetime sessions—Roblox is also facing mounting legal scrutiny.

In 2025, the company was hit with lawsuits from Texas, Louisiana, and Kentucky, as well as private plaintiffs, accusing the platform of failing to adequately protect minors. Reports also surfaced of more than 20 predator-related arrests, including a case involving an attempted kidnapping facilitated through Roblox and Discord.

Ongoing Safety Efforts and Player Pushback

To address criticism, Roblox leadership has rolled out or tested various safety measures, including:

  • Photo-based age estimation
  • Age-tiered chat restrictions

However, many users have expressed frustration, reporting incorrect age assessments and sudden exclusion from general chat channels.

These issues have created tension between the platform’s safety goals and players’ expectations for freedom, identity expression, and social interaction.

What This Means Moving Forward

Roblox’s decision to retire legacy System Badges marks a clear shift toward a new profile direction. While the company insists this is not the beginning of widespread badge removal, community trust remains fragile. With major lawsuits ongoing and platform safety still under scrutiny, Roblox appears to be preparing for a broader redesign that focuses on identity, verification, and controlled social features.

More information is expected once the new profile tools move into testing later in 2025.
