Amiibo-Exclusive Bonuses Raise the Total Cost of Full Feature Access
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches on December 4 for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, finally continuing Samus Aran’s story nearly 20 years after Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Players will take on rival bounty hunter Sylux and explore the wilderness of planet Viewros, with Samus’ new motorcycle Vi-O-La playing a major role in traversal.
While the game includes a complete experience out of the box, several optional features can only be unlocked through the three new Amiibo figures released specifically for Metroid Prime 4. None of these extras impact core gameplay progression, but accessing all of them requires purchasing Amiibo that together cost significantly more than the game itself.

Amiibo Features in Metroid Prime 4
Samus & Vi-O-La Amiibo Features
This figure focuses on Vi-O-La, Samus’ motorcycle:
- Change Vi-O-La’s color.
- Display total mileage each time the Amiibo is scanned.
- Increase the motorcycle’s energy boost regeneration once per day.
These features emphasize customization and light daily bonuses tied to Samus’ traversal vehicle.
Samus Amiibo Features
The Samus figure offers both cosmetic and functional benefits:
- Change the background music while riding Vi-O-La.
- Activate a once-per-day energy shield absorbing up to 99 damage.
- Automatically restore Samus’ health tank to full when the shield is triggered.
This is the only figure offering a functional combat benefit, though it is limited to one use per day.
Sylux Amiibo Features
Sylux’s figure focuses on flavor rather than mechanics:
- Play a random Sylux voice line each time the figure is scanned.
- After finishing the game, unlock a cinematic showing key story moments.
Although not gameplay-changing, these features add some character-centric immersion.
Older Metroid-Line Amiibo
Compatible older figures trigger a random in-game sound effect when scanned.
No gameplay or cosmetic benefits are tied to these legacy Amiibo.
Amiibo Use in Previous Metroid Titles
While Metroid Prime 4 is the first mainline Prime game to include Amiibo support, the franchise has a history of Amiibo-exclusive bonuses:
- Metroid Dread allowed Samus Amiibo to restore health and other characters to replenish missiles.
- Metroid: Samus Returns offered Aeion energy, missile reserves, and an easier method for locating Metroids.
- Other Nintendo titles have also given small bonuses to Metroid Amiibo, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Bayonetta 2, and Mario Party 10.
These previous perks set the precedent for non-essential but desirable Amiibo rewards.
Cost Concerns for Players
The three new Amiibo figures total around $100, while Metroid Prime 4 itself costs:
- $59.99 on Nintendo Switch
- $69.99 on Nintendo Switch 2
This makes the optional bonuses more expensive than the game itself, a point of frustration for players who want all cosmetic and daily features. While none of the Amiibo content blocks progression or hides core systems, the growing price of collectible figures makes these extras inaccessible for many fans.
