As debates continue over Jagex’s proposal to remove Treasure Hunter, microtransactions (MTX), and other core systems, we at GamingHQ believe there’s a better solution — one that respects both sides of the community.
Instead of dismantling long-standing features from the current game, we propose that Jagex develop a new version of RuneScape — a fresh, non-MTX server built from the ground up to focus on challenge, balance, and true player achievement, while keeping the original servers fully intact for those who enjoy the existing systems.
Keep the Past, Build the Future
RuneScape’s evolution over two decades has given players choices: from Old School RuneScape to RuneScape 3, each version catered to different preferences. There’s no reason this new step should erase what’s already there.
“If Jagex truly wants to create a fair and skill-based experience, they should do it on a separate world,” said GamingHQ. “Let players start over, without MTX, and see how it grows — but don’t force those changes on everyone who enjoys the current version.”
A dedicated non-MTX RuneScape would allow the studio to explore new systems for progression, rewards, and economy — all without harming the existing game.
A Call for a Real Challenge
A rebooted RuneScape world could take the best of both eras while removing convenience systems that made the game too easy or too dependent on real-world currency.
We suggest:
- No Treasure Hunter or MTX of any kind.
- No Grand Exchange, encouraging players to trade, barter, and craft directly.
- Rebalanced combat and skill systems for a more rewarding grind.
- Hardcore-style progression, where every decision matters and rewards feel earned.
Such a version would cater to those seeking a pure, player-driven challenge — a true test of skill and strategy without external boosts or shortcuts.
Respecting the Community’s Legacy
RuneScape’s strength has always been its ability to adapt without losing its roots. Removing features entirely risks fragmenting that legacy. By offering an alternative world instead of replacing the existing one, Jagex could honor both modern and traditional players — and potentially reignite the excitement that made RuneScape legendary in the first place.
At GamingHQ, we believe that evolution should expand possibilities, not erase them. If Jagex truly wants a fresh start, let it be through creation, not removal.
