Treyarch Studios has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will feature remastered maps from the 2012 classic Black Ops 2 that have not been revisited before. While the franchise has earned a reputation for cycling the same few remasters across different titles, the upcoming release will finally introduce maps that fans have not seen in over a decade.
The news may not come as a huge surprise, however. Long before the official confirmation, leaks suggested that Black Ops 7 would be heavy on remastered content, with speculation even pointing toward a remake of the popular Zombies map Tranzit. Many players had already anticipated this direction, especially with Black Ops 7 serving as a direct sequel to Black Ops 2.
A Sequel That Revisits Familiar Ground
Announced in June and fully revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Black Ops 7 is set ten years after the events of Black Ops 2. The game will continue the story with returning characters such as Raul Menendez and David Mason, introducing a new campaign centered on espionage and psychological twists.
Despite excitement for the narrative continuation, community reactions to the reveal have been mixed. Some long-time fans welcomed the return to the Black Ops 2 storyline, while others criticized the announcement and even voiced intentions to switch their pre-orders to Battlefield 6.
Which Maps Could Return in Black Ops 7?
In a recent Q&A session, Treyarch Design Director Matt Scronce responded directly to a question about Black Ops 2 maps not yet remastered. His answer was a simple, “Uh, yeah, you can,” effectively confirming that more unique remasters are on the way.
While Cold War and other past titles already saw maps such as Slums, Hijacked, Raid, and Standoff return, Black Ops 2 still has several untouched locations. Maps like Yemen, Aftermath, Cargo, Overflow, and Plaza have yet to reappear, making them strong candidates for seasonal updates in Black Ops 7.
Beta Details for Players
The open beta for Black Ops 7 is approaching quickly. Players who pre-ordered will gain early access beginning October 2, while the beta will open for everyone on October 5. Although the beta is not expected to feature Black Ops 2 remasters, it will highlight the game’s new movement mechanics, weapons, and original maps.
