Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will launch with four smaller “Strike” maps, specifically designed for modes like 2v2 Gunfight and Face Off. Treyarch Design Director Matt Scronce revealed the news on Twitter, noting that more Strike maps will be added post-launch, including the return of fan-favorite battlegrounds.
This mirrors the launch of Black Ops 6, which also debuted with four small-scale maps: Stakeout, Gala, Pit, and Warhead. The decision continues a recent trend seen across the franchise, where compact maps are introduced early on to complement larger-scale multiplayer arenas.
Gameplay and Setting
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 takes the series back into a futuristic setting for the first time since 2018’s Black Ops 4. The story unfolds after the events of Black Ops 2 and offers a campaign with full four-player co-op support. One of its most talked-about elements is a controversial final “Endgame” mission, which expands the experience to a massive 32-player open-world battle.
The game’s co-op Zombies mode is rumored to revisit fan-favorite concepts, including maps inspired by Black Ops 2’s TranZit, where players battled across multiple locations aboard a demonic bus. Multiplayer will include staples like Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed, while the addition of smaller Strike maps ensures a mix of fast-paced, close-quarters action alongside traditional large-scale engagements.
Strike Maps’ Role in Multiplayer
Strike maps have become an important part of the Call of Duty multiplayer formula. Whether it’s Modern Warfare 3’s post-launch maps like Meat and Stash House, or Black Ops 6’s comically small Bullet and Lifeline, these arenas deliver both chaotic fun in 6v6 matches and tense, tactical gameplay in Gunfight.
Although Treyarch has not confirmed the exact lineup of Strike maps for Black Ops 7, it’s expected that the design will support both 2v2 and 6v6 game modes, continuing the franchise’s flexible approach.
Release Date and Upcoming Reveal
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to release on November 14, 2025 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Like its predecessor, the game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
Fans will get a closer look at the multiplayer suite during the Call of Duty Next event on September 30, where some of the four Strike maps may be showcased in detail.
