Rockstar Games has quietly removed the Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Companion App from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The app was delisted on August 19, 2025, though the removal went unnoticed until recently.
A Useful Tool for Immersion
Originally launched in 2018 alongside the game, the companion app offered players a way to enhance immersion without interrupting gameplay. It allowed users to:
- Sync their phone with the in-game map.
- Add and remove waypoints directly from mobile.
- Access Arthur Morgan’s journal.
- Browse in-game store catalogs and inventories.
While considered by some to be a novelty, many players found it a convenient replacement for menus, helping to maintain immersion in Red Dead Redemption 2’s detailed world.
Why Was It Removed?
According to new pages on the Rockstar Support website, the companion app was officially delisted on August 19. However, Rockstar has not provided a clear reason for the removal. Despite Red Dead Redemption 2’s impressive sales figures — over 77 million copies sold — it remains uncertain how many players were still actively using the app in 2025.
Still Accessible for Existing Users
For those who previously downloaded the app, it remains available through purchase history on both iOS and Android. Additionally, players who bought the Red Dead Redemption 2 Complete Official Guide within the app will still have access to their purchase. The only restriction is that new users can no longer download the app from either store.
The Future of Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption 2 is approaching its seventh anniversary in 2025. By next year, the gap between the second entry and a potential sequel will surpass the time between the 2010 original and its 2018 follow-up.
While Rockstar’s focus has largely shifted toward Grand Theft Auto 6, the enduring success of the Red Dead series suggests that Red Dead Redemption 3 is inevitable — though fans may be waiting quite some time before it becomes a reality.
