Microsoft Confirms Support for Nintendo Switch 2, Teasing Major Titles

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has confirmed Microsoft’s intentions to support the Nintendo Switch 2 with Xbox games. This announcement aligns with reports suggesting a significant push from Microsoft to bring its titles to the next-generation Nintendo console.

Xbox Games on Switch 2: A New Era

Several Xbox titles are expected to make their way to the Switch 2, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Jez Corden of Windows Central has reported that Microsoft plans to launch most, if not all, of its games on the platform, provided it meets the hardware requirements.

Speaking on the Gamertag Radio podcast, Spencer expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration:

“Nintendo and their innovation, what they mean in this industry, I just always applaud the moves that they make. Really looking forward to supporting them with the games that we have.”

Spencer also praised the larger screen of the Switch 2, humorously noting, “My old eyes appreciate the larger screen! It’s not always true that I can read all the text!”

Microsoft’s Expanding Multiplatform Strategy

Microsoft’s support for the Switch 2 builds on its history with the original Switch, which saw releases like Minecraft and Obsidian’s Pentiment. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to make Xbox titles available on multiple platforms. Recent examples include Doom: The Dark Ages launching on PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox and PC, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle slated for a multiplatform release this spring.

Spencer emphasized this direction:

“We love the work that we do with Nintendo, we love what we do with Valve on Steam, and that’s going to continue… Put the games first. Make sure the games can be as great as they can.”

Third-Party Publishers Join the Party

Microsoft isn’t the only company preparing for the Switch 2. Square Enix reportedly plans to release Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2025 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in 2026. Ubisoft is working on ports of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and potentially a bundled re-release of the Mario + Rabbids games. Konami is also rumored to bring Metal Gear Solid Delta to the Switch 2.

Nacon, the French publisher behind titles like Greedfall 2 and Test Drive Unlimited, has gone on record confirming its involvement with Switch 2 games, expecting a release window between April and September 2025.

What’s Next for Switch 2?

Nintendo is reportedly planning a dedicated Switch 2 Direct event in April, where fans can expect more details on the console and its game lineup. With growing third-party support and Microsoft’s full backing, the Switch 2 is shaping up to be a significant contender in the next-generation console market.
