And again, Sony has made the internet losing its mind once more. Sony loves to back-stab its user-base. Sony is preparing to pull the plug on PlayStation Stars, giving players just one more month to use any points they still have sitting in their accounts.
The PlayStation loyalty program will officially shut down on November 2, 2026. After that date, remaining points can no longer be redeemed.
For players who have been saving their points, now is the time to spend them.
PlayStation Stars reaches the end
PlayStation Stars launched in 2022 as Sony’s loyalty program for PlayStation users.
Members could earn points through eligible PlayStation Store purchases and various campaigns. Those points could then be exchanged for rewards, including PlayStation Store wallet funds.
The program also introduced digital collectibles that players could display through the PlayStation App.
However, Sony began winding down PlayStation Stars in May 2025, when the company stopped accepting new members.
Existing members were allowed to continue using the program during this transition period. That grace period is now almost over.
On November 2, 2026, PlayStation Stars will officially shut down.
Spend your PlayStation Stars points now
Anyone with PlayStation Stars points remaining should check the PlayStation App and redeem them before the deadline.
There is little reason to keep saving them.
Once the program closes, those points will no longer provide any value. Players should therefore use whatever balance remains while rewards are still available.
There is at least some good news for collectors.
Sony says digital collectibles previously earned through PlayStation Stars will remain accessible after the program shuts down. Players will not lose the collectibles already attached to their accounts.
Another PlayStation benefit disappears
The closure also removes one of the few direct loyalty rewards available to regular PlayStation Store customers.
Players already buying digital games through Sony’s ecosystem could effectively earn part of their spending back through PlayStation Stars. It was not an enormous reward system, but it provided an additional incentive to remain within the PlayStation ecosystem.
Now that incentive is disappearing.
And currently, there is no announced replacement for PlayStation Stars.
Sony experimented with another type of reward in September. Selected digital purchases, including games such as The Blood of Dawnwalker and Star Wars Zero Company, were accompanied by promotional PlayStation Network wallet credit.
However, that promotion was temporary.
Sony has not confirmed whether similar offers will become a regular feature or form part of a future loyalty system.
PlayStation’s digital push continues
The timing will probably do little to improve Sony’s relationship with players already concerned about PlayStation’s increasingly digital direction.
The company has faced criticism surrounding its long-term physical media strategy, while discussions about future PlayStation hardware and potential PlayStation 6 pricing continue.
Removing a loyalty program that specifically rewarded customers for spending money through the PlayStation Store therefore feels like another questionable move.
Digital purchases are becoming increasingly important to the PlayStation business, yet one of the incentives for buying directly through Sony is now disappearing.
For consumers, that is difficult to describe as an improvement.
October remains huge for PS5
PlayStation Stars may be approaching its grave, but the PS5 itself has a busy month ahead.
October 2026 includes several major releases, including Final Fantasy Resonance, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Phantom Blade Zero. PlayStation Plus subscribers also have another round of monthly games and catalogue additions to watch.
That gives Sony plenty of opportunities to experiment with alternative promotions.
Whether any of those eventually develop into a proper PlayStation Stars replacement remains unknown.
Don’t let your points disappear
For now, PlayStation Stars members only need to remember one date:
November 2, 2026.
Check the PlayStation App, see how many points you have remaining, and redeem anything worthwhile before the deadline.
After four years, PlayStation Stars is heading for shutdown — and unless Sony announces something new, PlayStation customers are losing another benefit rather than gaining one.
