RuneScape: Dragonwilds Gets Prayer Skill in December 2026

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is bringing another classic RuneScape skill into its survival world. Jagex plans to add Prayer in December 2026 as part of the upcoming Luminance winter update.

Prayer will not simply copy the system players know from RuneScape. Instead, Jagex is adapting the skill around Dragonwilds’ survival gameplay. Players will still bury bones and manage Prayer Points, but the system will also interact with combat, gathering and base building.

For longtime RuneScape players, however, plenty of familiar elements remain.

Prayer Comes to RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Prayer is being designed as both a combat and support skill.

Players will be able to bury bones, construct an Altar at their base and eventually unlock Prayer slots. These slots can then be used for passive effects that remain active while enough Prayer Points are available.

The bonuses will cover several areas of gameplay. Jagex has outlined effects that can improve combat performance, restore health and increase resource gathering efficiency.

Protection against specific damage types will also return.

That should immediately sound familiar to RuneScape veterans, where protection prayers have been an important part of combat for decades.

Altars Will Become Much More Important

Prayer Points will need to be managed while exploring Ashenfall.

Players can restore their points through Altars found throughout the world or by returning to an Altar constructed at their own base.

However, enemies may complicate things.

Jagex previously confirmed that certain enemies will be capable of draining Prayer Points when they attack. As a result, keeping Prayer active during difficult encounters may require more planning than simply activating a bonus and forgetting about it.

Prayer progression will also include skill spells, buffs, passive unlocks, stat improvements and additional rewards.

The developers have said they are taking inspiration from RuneScape’s history while adapting those mechanics for Dragonwilds.

Bones Finally Have Another Purpose

Of course, it would not really be Prayer without bones.

Burying bones will form part of the progression system, while earlier development plans also discussed offerings, rituals and Blessings.

That could make bones significantly more valuable once Luminance arrives. Players who currently leave piles of them behind may suddenly have a reason to start collecting them.

Prayer will also become another skill that players can eventually push toward level 99.

Luminance Arrives in December 2026

Prayer was originally associated with earlier expansion plans, but Jagex changed its roadmap during development.

The studio moved Prayer into its winter update while bringing Agility forward. Agility subsequently received its major overhaul in July 2026.

The December update is currently known as Luminance.

Jagex has confirmed that the update will be free and contain additional content alongside Prayer. More information about the update is expected as its launch approaches.

An exact December release date has not yet been announced.

Dragonwilds Keeps Growing After Version 1.0

The update is also important because it shows that RuneScape: Dragonwilds is continuing beyond its version 1.0 milestone.

Jagex has repeatedly said that completing the Kuldra Saga would not mark the end of development. The studio intends to continue expanding Dragonwilds with new stories, systems and content.

Prayer is another major step toward making Dragonwilds feel closer to RuneScape while maintaining its own survival identity.

Building an Altar at home, collecting bones and activating protection prayers before heading into dangerous territory certainly sounds like RuneScape.

Just with considerably more base building and considerably more dragons.
