Final Fantasy 11 has made one of the biggest changes to its free trial in years. Square Enix has removed the trial’s 14-day time limit and increased its maximum level from 50 to 75.
The changes officially went live on September 30. Square Enix first previewed the expanded trial in August, giving players several weeks to prepare for the update.
For newcomers, this makes exploring the classic MMORPG much easier. Players no longer need to rush through their first two weeks before deciding whether they want to continue.
Final Fantasy 11 Free Trial No Longer Has a Time Limit
The biggest change involves the removal of the 14-day restriction. Previously, anyone starting the Final Fantasy 11 free trial had two weeks before their access ended.
That restriction is now gone.
Free trial players can spend as much time as they want exploring the available content. This gives newcomers more freedom to learn the game’s systems, experiment with different jobs, and explore Vana’diel at their own pace.
That could make a significant difference for Final Fantasy 11. The MMORPG originally launched more than two decades ago and can feel very different from modern online games.
Removing the timer gives new players more time to adjust without worrying about wasting their limited trial period.
Level Cap Increased From 50 to 75
Square Enix has also raised the free trial level cap from 50 to 75.
Those additional 25 levels open access to considerably more character progression. Players can unlock more high-level job abilities and experience a larger portion of each job’s progression.
Free trial players can also obtain their full sets of Artifact Armor.
The change becomes even more important when considering Final Fantasy 11’s job and subjob systems. Players can combine their primary job with abilities from another job, creating different character builds and playstyles.
With the main level cap increased to 75, subjobs can now reach level 37 instead of level 25. That gives free players access to additional subjob abilities and more options when building their characters.
A Much Bigger Final Fantasy 11 Trial
The expanded trial arrives during an interesting period for Final Fantasy 11.
Final Fantasy 14 may have become Square Enix’s dominant MMORPG, but Final Fantasy 11 continues to maintain an active community. The game has also experienced renewed interest in recent years.
At one point, Square Enix reportedly considered ending Final Fantasy 11’s service. However, continued player interest helped keep the MMORPG alive.
More recently, some servers have experienced enough activity that restrictions became necessary for new characters and character transfers.
The expanded free trial could bring another wave of newcomers into the game.
Final Fantasy 11 Becomes Easier to Recommend to New Players
A two-week trial can feel restrictive for an MMORPG, especially one with more than 20 years of content and systems behind it.
Removing that deadline changes the experience completely.
Players can now spend weeks or even months experimenting with jobs before deciding whether they want to purchase the full game. The increased level cap also provides a much better look at how jobs develop beyond their earlier levels.
It also brings Final Fantasy 11 closer to the approach taken by other MMORPGs that use generous free trials to attract new players.
For longtime fans, the update could also provide an easier way to convince friends to finally give Vana’diel a chance.
More than two decades after its original launch, Final Fantasy 11 is still evolving. Its newly expanded free trial now gives players far more time and content to discover why the MMORPG continues to survive.
