Xbox Mythic Achievements Leak Points to a Platinum-Style Reward

Xbox may finally be preparing to reward players who completely finish a game’s achievement list. A new leak from the Xbox PC App appears to have revealed both the artwork and unlock sound for something called a Mythic Achievement.

The feature has not yet been formally announced by Microsoft. However, several discoveries over the past few weeks are starting to paint a fairly convincing picture of what Xbox could be preparing.

If the leaks are accurate, Mythic Achievements could essentially become Xbox’s answer to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy.

Mythic Achievement Artwork and Sound Apparently Found

On September 23, Xbox-focused creator Klobrille shared a short video showing what appears to be the official Mythic Achievement animation and unlock sound.

The assets were reportedly discovered following an update to the Xbox PC App.

The leaked artwork uses a noticeably more prestigious design than a standard Xbox Achievement, which would make sense if Mythic Achievements are intended to represent full completion of a game’s achievement list.

The accompanying sound also appears designed to make unlocking one feel different from receiving a regular Achievement.

While leaked assets alone are not confirmation that the feature will launch exactly as expected, this is far from the first indication that Microsoft has something new planned for Xbox Achievements.

Xbox Previously Teased Something for 2026

Interest in a possible Achievement overhaul increased in August after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma responded to a fan asking about improvements to the Achievement system.

Sharma said that “the team is working on something for later this year.”

Microsoft did not explain what that something would be, leaving plenty of room for speculation.

The appearance of Mythic Achievement assets only weeks later has naturally strengthened theories that the comment was referring to this new completion reward.

Gears of War: E-Day May Have Already Revealed How It Works

Another major clue appeared with the Achievement list for Gears of War: E-Day.

One Achievement reportedly asks players to:

“Earn all other Achievements.”

More importantly, the Achievement itself grants no additional Gamerscore.

That would make considerably more sense if the reward is not supposed to increase a player’s Gamerscore at all. Instead, completing every other Achievement could unlock a separate Mythic Achievement.

That structure would be extremely similar to how Platinum Trophies work on PlayStation.

Players complete the required Trophy list and receive a Platinum as recognition for finishing everything required by the game.

Xbox has historically relied heavily on Gamerscore instead. While reaching 1,000G in a game already acts as an unofficial completion milestone, there has never been a universal Xbox equivalent to the Platinum Trophy.

Mythic Achievements could finally change that.

A Mythic Achievements Menu Has Also Appeared

Achievement hunter Stallion83 has provided another piece of the puzzle.

Using an Xbox Insider skip-ahead build, Stallion83 reportedly discovered a new “Mythic Achievements” section inside the Achievement interface.

That is particularly interesting because it suggests Mythic Achievements could be treated as their own category rather than simply being another Achievement worth zero Gamerscore.

Combined with the newly discovered artwork and sound, there are now several separate indications pointing toward the same feature.

Xbox Achievement Hunters Have Wanted This for Years

Xbox already has one of gaming’s most recognizable Achievement systems.

The problem is that completing a game does not provide a unique universal reward.

Someone earning 1,000G in a standard game can obviously see that they have completed the original Achievement list, but DLC and post-launch updates can complicate that percentage later.

There is also no special completion-level Achievement shared across Xbox games.

A Mythic Achievement could provide exactly that.

Instead of completion simply being represented by a number, players could have a dedicated collection showing exactly how many games they have fully completed.

For Achievement hunters, that could become another major statistic alongside total Gamerscore.

Could Existing Games Receive Mythic Achievements?

This is currently one of the biggest unanswered questions.

Microsoft has not explained whether Mythic Achievements would only work with games released after the feature launches or whether existing Xbox games could receive them retroactively.

Retroactive support would obviously make the system significantly more interesting for longtime Xbox players.

Someone with hundreds of completed games could potentially receive a large Mythic collection immediately. Alternatively, Microsoft could require developers to update older Achievement lists before a Mythic reward can be issued.

There is currently no confirmation either way.

It is also unclear how DLC would be handled.

PlayStation generally separates Platinum requirements from additional DLC Trophy lists. Xbox would need to establish similar rules if Mythic Achievements are intended to represent completion of the base game rather than every piece of content ever released for it.

What Happens to Gamerscore?

Another important question involves Gamerscore.

Based on the Gears of War: E-Day example, Mythic Achievements may not provide Gamerscore themselves.

That would arguably be the cleanest approach.

The player’s Gamerscore would continue representing individual Achievements, while Mythic Achievements would act as a separate completion statistic.

A profile could theoretically display something like total Gamerscore alongside the total number of Mythic Achievements earned.

However, until Microsoft formally explains the system, its exact relationship with Gamerscore remains unknown.

Microsoft Still Hasn’t Officially Announced Mythic Achievements

Despite the growing amount of evidence, Mythic Achievements should still be treated as an unannounced feature.

Microsoft has not formally revealed the system, explained its requirements or confirmed when it will become available to regular Xbox players.

Still, the pieces are beginning to line up.

We now have reported artwork and an unlock sound inside the Xbox PC App, a Mythic Achievements section appearing in an Insider build, Microsoft’s previous tease of something coming later this year, and a Gears of War: E-Day Achievement specifically tied to earning every other Achievement.

If everything works the way it currently appears, Xbox players may finally be getting something Achievement hunters have requested for years: a proper reward for completely finishing a game.

And this time, 1,000G might no longer be the end of the story.
