Pokémon Pokopia players now have a better idea of what to expect from the game’s post-launch roadmap, with Nintendo outlining a multi-year expansion plan that will continue through 2027. New retail artwork has also fueled speculation about possible customization features coming in future updates.
Pokémon Pokopia Continues to Grow
Pokémon Pokopia launched earlier this year as the first Pokémon title developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game quickly became one of the platform’s biggest releases, selling more than four million copies and even receiving bundle deals alongside Nintendo’s latest console.
With Pokémon Winds and Waves not expected until 2027, it appears Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are aiming to keep Pokopia active with a steady flow of new content.
Bubbly Basin Expansion Arrives in August
During a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, the first expansion pack, known as Bubbly Basin, was officially revealed.
The update introduces new underwater gameplay mechanics, allowing players to construct locations beneath the sea. Ditto will also receive the Dive move, opening up new ways to explore and interact with the environment.
Bubbly Basin is scheduled to launch in August 2026.
More DLC Planned Through 2027
Nintendo has confirmed that the expansion pass will consist of multiple parts.
Current plans include:
- Part One: Bubbly Basin – August 2026
- Part Two: Scheduled for later in 2026
- Final Expansion: Arriving sometime in 2027
At the moment, few details have been shared about the latter two packs, leaving plenty of room for future announcements.
New Artwork Raises Questions About Customization
Fresh retail artwork accompanying the expansion pass has caught the attention of fans.
The artwork prominently features Manaphy, Popplio, and Ditto using its new Dive ability. However, some smaller details have sparked even more discussion.
Snubbull appears wearing a yellow bow tie, while a character known as “Peakychu” is shown with white wings and a hat. These accessories have led many players to speculate that future updates may introduce wearable items or expanded resident customization options.
Previous Pokémon Games Offer Clues
The idea of customizable Pokémon isn’t entirely new. Costume-themed Pokémon have appeared in several previous games, and Pokémon GO has frequently featured special outfits and event-themed appearances. Even Pokémon Winds and Waves has showcased dressed-up versions of Pikachu.
