Mojang has officially revealed the next biome coming to Minecraft during the latest Minecraft Live presentation at TwitchCon Europe. Alongside the announcement of the new Dappled Forest biome, fans also received their first confirmation of the title for the upcoming Minecraft movie sequel.
The reveal offers players an early look at the third major game drop planned for Minecraft in 2026, continuing Mojang’s strategy of delivering regular content updates throughout the year.
A New Forest Biome Arrives Later This Year
The upcoming Dappled Forest biome introduces a completely new visual style to Minecraft’s overworld. The biome features warm orange and brown colors, creating an autumn-inspired landscape unlike anything currently found in the game.
Among its most notable additions are the new poplar trees, which feature distinctive brown-and-orange leaves. Players will also encounter red shrubs spread throughout the biome, helping create its unique appearance.
Mojang’s preview also hinted at abandoned camps hidden within the forest. While the developer has not yet revealed exactly how these locations will function, they could provide players with new opportunities for exploration and discovery.
The Dappled Forest is expected to launch as part of Minecraft’s third game drop of 2026, currently planned for release during the third quarter of the year.
Expanding Minecraft’s Growing World
Minecraft already offers players a large variety of forest environments to explore. Traditional Oak and Birch forests remain common throughout the overworld, while players can also discover Taigas, Jungles, Bamboo Jungles, and the mysterious Pale Garden biome.
The addition of the Dappled Forest further expands Minecraft’s environmental diversity and provides builders with new blocks, colors, and scenery to work with.
Although Mojang has only shared an early preview, many players are already speculating about what secrets and resources the new biome may contain when it arrives later this year.
Minecraft Movie Sequel Officially Named
The presentation wasn’t focused solely on the game itself. Mojang also surprised viewers with new details regarding the next Minecraft movie.
The sequel has officially been titled A Minecraft Movie: Squared, confirming the next chapter for the film franchise following the success of the original movie.
Recent reports have already revealed that Kirsten Dunst will portray Alex, one of Minecraft’s most recognizable characters. Returning talent will also help guide the sequel, with Jared Hess returning as director and Chris Galletta once again contributing to the screenplay.
Release Date Set for 2027
Warner Bros. has already locked in a release date for the upcoming sequel. A Minecraft Movie: Squared is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 23, 2027.
With a brand-new biome heading to the game and a movie sequel already moving forward, Minecraft continues to grow far beyond its original sandbox roots. Players can look forward to exploring the Dappled Forest later this year while movie fans await the next adventure on the big screen.
