Ball x Pit Gets Free Trial As Indie Success Continues Growing

One of the standout indie roguelike titles from recent years is now becoming easier to jump into for curious players. Ball x Pit, developed by Kenny Sun & Friends, is currently available through a limited-time Nintendo Switch trial, giving players an opportunity to experience the game before committing to a purchase.

Since its original release in 2025, Ball x Pit has steadily built a strong reputation among players and critics thanks to its unusual blend of endless-wave combat and long-term progression systems. Rather than simply focusing on surviving runs, the game rewards players with resources that can be used to expand a growing base and unlock additional content over time.

Roguelike Action Meets Long-Term Progression

While many roguelikes focus entirely on repeating runs and restarting from scratch, Ball x Pit attempts to create a stronger sense of permanent progression. Each completed run contributes resources toward broader upgrades, making every attempt feel meaningful even after defeat.

That structure has become one of the game’s biggest strengths. The combination of combat encounters and a base-building layer creates a loop that gives players reasons to keep coming back beyond simple score chasing.

For players who enjoy progression-heavy games that continue opening up over time, Ball x Pit appears to have found a formula that resonates with a large audience.

Reviews Show Strong Reception Across Players And Critics

The reception surrounding Ball x Pit has remained extremely positive since launch.

Player reviews have pushed the game into “Overwhelmingly Positive” territory with more than 25,000 user reviews and satisfaction ratings exceeding 90%. Critical reception has also remained strong, with average review scores landing around the mid-to-high 80 range and recommendation rates staying notably high.

For a smaller indie release, those numbers place Ball x Pit among the better-performing roguelike titles released in recent years.

Free Trial And Sale Available For Switch Players

Nintendo Switch users currently have a limited window to test the full game through a special trial period available to active Nintendo Switch Online members.

The event runs from May 26 through June 1, 2026. Alongside the free trial, the game is also receiving a 33% discount, lowering the price from approximately $14 to around $9 until June 8.

The game itself remains relatively lightweight at roughly 800MB, making it an easy download for players wanting to quickly test it.

Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch 2 owners can also access a free upgrade pack designed to enhance the overall experience on newer hardware.

New Content And Physical Edition Continue Support

Post-launch support also appears to remain active. Earlier this year, Ball x Pit received the free “Shadow” update, adding additional playable characters, new ball types, upgrades, and more content for returning players.

Outside of digital platforms, physical collectors also have something to look forward to. A physical release for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 is scheduled for May 29 and includes several extras for collectors, including posters and collectible cards.

For players who have heard the praise surrounding Ball x Pit but never took the opportunity to try it, this current trial may be the easiest entry point yet.
