Worms Galactic Tactics Leak Suggests Team17 Is Exploring a New Tactical Direction

A newly surfaced leak may have revealed the next major evolution of the long-running Worms franchise, with reports claiming Team17 is currently working on a tactical strategy spin-off known as Worms Galactic Tactics.

The alleged project started circulating online earlier this week after screenshots and gameplay footage appeared on social media platforms, quickly drawing attention from longtime fans of the franchise. While the game has not been officially announced, the leaked material has already generated heavy discussion across gaming communities.

Leak Chain Started After Prince of Persia Build Appeared Online

The situation reportedly began on May 6 when YouTuber j0nathan uploaded a screenshot on X claiming to show an early build of a Prince of Persia project. The image immediately triggered online debates regarding whether the material was legitimate.

Shortly afterward, X user EvilLeeker reportedly joined the growing wave of leaks by sharing screenshots and gameplay footage allegedly connected to an unannounced Worms title.

One of the screenshots appears to show a cropped Steam client window labeled “team17_playtest,” with the unreleased build reportedly last played during early August 2025. This detail has led many users to believe the project entered internal pre-alpha testing sometime last year.

A gameplay clip that was uploaded to Streamable was later removed following a copyright claim, something many fans view as a possible indication that the footage may have been authentic. Despite the takedown, several screenshots connected to the leak remained online as of May 9, 2026.

Tactical Strategy Gameplay Replaces Traditional Worms Formula

Based on the leaked material, Worms Galactic Tactics appears to move away from the franchise’s traditional artillery-focused gameplay in favor of a more tactical strategy RPG structure.

The game reportedly features large 3D battlefields viewed from a bird’s-eye perspective, mission-based progression, and squad-focused combat encounters. Players are said to control squads consisting of up to six worms while battling significantly larger enemy forces.

The leak also suggests the presence of between-mission upgrades and multi-stage operations, though it remains unclear how persistent progression systems function throughout the game.

While comparisons to XCOM quickly emerged online, the gameplay shown in the leak reportedly appears more accessible and less punishing than deeper tactical strategy games currently on the market.

Visual Style Returns to a More Classic Worms Identity

Another detail that quickly caught the attention of longtime fans is the project’s visual direction.

The leaked screenshots appear to show a shift away from the glossy toy-like presentation seen in Worms Rumble. Instead, the environments and character models resemble the older cartoon-inspired art style used in previous 3D Worms entries.

This change has already been positively received by fans who preferred the franchise’s older visual identity and comedic presentation style.

Team17 Has Not Officially Confirmed the Game

At the time of writing, Team17 has not officially announced Worms Galactic Tactics or commented publicly on the leaked screenshots and gameplay footage.

As with all leaks and pre-release information, details may change during development, and there is no guarantee the project will release in its current form — or release at all.

Still, the idea of a tactical Worms spin-off has already generated significant interest online, especially among fans curious to see the franchise experiment with larger-scale strategy gameplay while retaining its classic humor and identity.
