Pokémon GO is preparing for another high-impact limited-time event with the arrival of the Falinks Super Mega Raid Day. Scheduled for Saturday, May 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, the event puts Mega Falinks in the spotlight with increased Shiny encounter rates and expanded raid opportunities.
To support increased participation, Niantic is temporarily raising the Remote Raid limit to 20. This change begins Friday, May 22 at 5:00 p.m. PT and runs through Saturday, May 23 at 8:00 p.m. PT, giving players more flexibility to join raids globally.
Raid Passes and Optional Ticket Bonuses
All players will be able to collect up to six additional Raid Passes by spinning Gym Photo Discs during the event. For those looking to maximize their rewards, an optional event ticket priced at $4.99 significantly increases the value:
- Up to 14 total Raid Passes from Photo Discs
- Increased chance of receiving Rare Candy XL from raids
- Bonus rewards of +5,000 XP and +5,000 Stardust per Super Mega Raid
These bonuses are only active during the three-hour event window, making timing and preparation critical for players aiming to optimize gains.
Major Mega Evolution Changes Go Live
Alongside the event, Niantic is rolling out an important gameplay update that directly affects Mega Evolution systems. Players will now be able to use Mega Energy to rapidly increase a Pokémon’s Mega Level.
In addition, the Mega Energy cost required to level up is reduced for Pokémon that have already been Mega Evolved multiple times. This change rewards long-term investment and makes it easier to maintain high-level Mega Pokémon for future battles.
Wider Context and What Comes Next
Mega Evolution has remained a core feature in the Pokémon franchise since its introduction in Pokémon X and Y and its later expansion in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Since arriving in Pokémon GO in 2020, the system has steadily expanded with new additions.
Recent updates have already introduced Mega forms like Mega Dragonite, Mega Victreebel, and Mega Malamar, showing a clear push toward expanding the roster further. Momentum continues to build following developments seen in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which introduced a wave of new Mega Evolutions that could eventually make their way into Pokémon GO.
Looking ahead, the Falinks event serves as a lead-in to the in-person Pokémon GO Fest 2026 events. While not officially confirmed, ongoing speculation suggests that Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y could be among the next major additions, setting the stage for one of the biggest Mega releases to date.
Pokémon GO’s Falinks Super Mega Raid Day is shaping up to be more than just another short event. Between boosted shiny odds, expanded raid access, and meaningful system changes, it marks a notable step forward for Mega Evolution and event design moving into the rest of 2026.
