High Zaptitude Event Brings Wattrel Debut and Electric Bonuses to Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO is kicking off 2026 with an electrifying new event. High Zaptitude runs from January 13 at 10:00 AM to January 18 at 8:00 PM local time, delivering a full week of Electric-type bonuses, shiny opportunities, and the long-awaited debut of Wattrel and its evolution Kilowattrel.

The event takes place during the Precious Paths season, following directly after the Pinch Perfect event, and sets the tone for a milestone year as Pokémon GO approaches its 10th anniversary alongside the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Wattrel and Kilowattrel Make Their Pokémon GO Debut

For the first time, Trainers will be able to catch Wattrel, the Electric/Flying-type Pokémon introduced in Paldea. Known for its speed and high special attack, Wattrel evolves into Kilowattrel with 50 Candy.

In battle terms, the line leans toward a glass-cannon playstyle. While not expected to dominate the Electric-type meta, both Pokémon bring exciting move potential, including:

  • Volt Switch
  • Hurricane
  • Air Slash

Wattrel and Kilowattrel will appear in the wild and through Field Research encounters once the event’s Global Challenge reaches its second tier.

Shiny Tadbulb Takes the Spotlight

Shiny hunters have a strong reason to participate, as Shiny Tadbulb will have an increased chance of hatching during the event, including from 2 km Eggs. Alongside Tadbulb, several Electric-type Pokémon will enjoy boosted shiny odds, making this one of the better shiny-focused events of the season.

Global Challenge Bonuses

High Zaptitude features a three-stage Global Challenge system, with rewards unlocking as the community completes event tasks:

Level 1

  • 2× XP for catching Pokémon

Level 2

  • 2× Stardust for catching Pokémon
  • Wattrel and Kilowattrel unlocked in the wild and Field Research

Level 3

  • 2× XP for hatching Pokémon
  • 2× Stardust for hatching Pokémon

These bonuses stack nicely for players focusing on leveling, Stardust farming, or egg hatching throughout the week.

Boosted Spawns and Egg Pool

Electric-type Pokémon will be more common in the wild during the event, with higher shiny chances for several fan favorites.

Increased Wild Encounters

  • Shinx
  • Tadbulb
  • Chinchou
  • Helioptile

2 km Egg Pool (All with boosted shiny odds)

  • Tadbulb
  • Pichu
  • Elekid
  • Toxel

For Trainers focusing on eggs, this is one of the most efficient windows in recent months to chase both shinies and rare Electric-types.

Paid Timed Research and GO Pass Synergy

A paid Timed Research option will be available for $1.99, offering a major quality-of-life boost by halving egg incubator time during the event.

High Zaptitude also runs alongside the January 2026 Pokémon GO Pass, which includes perks such as:

  • A chance to encounter Shiny Dialga
  • A Lucky Trinket reward for added trade value

Together, these systems give both free-to-play and premium players solid reasons to stay active throughout the event window.

A Strong Start to a Milestone Year

With Pokémon GO entering a historic year in 2026, High Zaptitude feels like a carefully positioned event. The debut of Wattrel, meaningful shiny opportunities, and strong progression bonuses all contribute to a sense that the game is building momentum for what lies ahead.

As expectations continue to rise for new features and long-term improvements from Scopely and The Pokémon Company, events like this show a renewed focus on rewarding engagement while keeping the experience accessible to all types of players.

High Zaptitude may not redefine the meta, but for collectors, shiny hunters, and Electric-type fans, it delivers exactly what an early-year event should: energy, excitement, and plenty of reasons to log in every day.
