Pokémon GO has officially revealed a new Adventure Effect for Eternatus, the Legendary Poison/Dragon-type Pokémon from Generation 8. The update arrives just in time for the global GO Fest 2025: Max Finale celebrations and introduces a powerful feature that ties into Eternatus’ lore from Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Eternatus Arrives With Dynamax Cannon Adventure Effect
When Eternatus makes its debut in Pokémon GO, it will come equipped with the Charged Attack Dynamax Cannon—and a powerful new Adventure Effect. This effect can be activated using 5,000 Stardust and 30 Eternatus Candy, enhancing the strength of a player’s Max Moves during Max Battles for 10 minutes.
- Locked Max Moves will be boosted to level 1
- Level 3 Max Moves will increase to level 4
While the Dynamax Cannon Adventure Effect is active, no other Adventure Effects can be triggered simultaneously, meaning players must plan their battles strategically.
How to Catch Eternatus in Pokémon GO
To obtain Eternatus, players will need to complete objectives from the upcoming GO Pass: Max Finale, active from Monday, August 18, at 10 AM to Sunday, August 24, at 9 PM local time.
- All players receive the standard pass for free
- The deluxe pass offers bonus rewards and faster progression
Completing the GO Pass grants encounters with Eternatus, access to Dynamax Pokémon, and items like Max Particles and Candy. Deluxe pass holders will also receive exclusive perks such as:
- An Eternatus avatar item
- Extra Candy and Candy XL
- Additional Max Particles
Eternamax Eternatus and More in the Max Finale Event
As part of the two-day GO Fest 2025: Max Finale event from August 23–24, players will also encounter the much-anticipated Eternamax Eternatus form—known from the mainline games as the origin of the Dynamax phenomenon.
During the larger celebration:
- Zacian and Zamazenta raids will return during the Dark Skies event (August 18–24)
- New Timed Research and wild Dynamax encounters will appear
- A boost in spawn rates for 17 Pokémon, including all Kanto starters, will be active
- Players will participate in Gigantamax Battles across the weekend
This August, Pokémon GO trainers will not only get their first chance to catch Eternatus but also experience an entirely new layer of battle mechanics with the Dynamax Cannon Adventure Effect—making GO Fest 2025’s finale one of the most content-rich events to date.
