Sega has confirmed that nine classic mobile games from its Sega Forever collection are set to be removed from both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. No official delisting date has been provided yet, but in-app notifications have started alerting users of the upcoming removals.
What Is Sega Forever?
Launched in 2017, Sega Forever is a project that brought beloved retro Sega titles to mobile platforms. These games were available free of charge, monetized through in-app advertising, and aimed to preserve Sega’s legacy in a mobile-friendly format.
List of Games Being Delisted
The following titles are confirmed for removal across both Android and iOS platforms:
- Crazy Taxi Classic
- Golden Axe Classics
- Shining Force Classics
- Sonic CD Classic
- Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2
- Streets of Rage Classic
- Streets of Rage 2 Classic
- Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Edition
- Virtua Tennis Challenge
Can You Still Download Them?
Yes — for now. All nine games are still available to download for free on their respective stores. Once added to your account, they will remain accessible even after being removed from public listings.
Players are strongly encouraged to claim the titles now to avoid losing access later. After delisting, you won’t be able to search or install them from the store unless they’re tied to your account already.
Why Are These Games Being Removed?
Sega has not officially explained the reason behind the mass delisting. However, it’s likely tied to licensing expirations, maintenance costs, or low monetization performance. This is one of the largest removal waves in the history of Sega Forever, making it more significant than usual.
Some of the games, like Virtua Tennis Challenge, still maintain an active user base — currently ranked in the top 150 sports games on iOS as of June 24.
What Happens After Delisting?
It’s unknown whether the in-app ads will continue to function post-delisting. Sega may choose to disable monetization for delisted titles, or simply leave the ad systems running.
Regardless of ad support, delisted games will become invisible to new users, effectively ending their distribution unless they are re-released in the future or bundled elsewhere.
Final Chance for Fans
Sega may or may not delist these titles all at once. But with notices rolling out across every game, it’s safer to assume they’ll disappear sooner rather than later.
