Grand Theft Auto 6: Latest Release Date Leak Debunked by Retailer

It has been a staggering 12 years since Grand Theft Auto 5 first hit store shelves, so it’s no surprise that fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6. Unfortunately, updates from Rockstar Games regarding GTA 6 have been few and far between since the game was first confirmed to be in development.

The most significant official update came when Rockstar unveiled the first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer. The trailer introduced Lucia as the game’s female protagonist and confirmed that the setting is a fictionalized version of Florida, including Vice City. However, since that groundbreaking reveal, Rockstar has remained tight-lipped about when fans can expect the next trailer to drop.

Fake Release Date Leak from Retailer X Uruguay

While there are still many unanswered questions surrounding GTA 6, the most pressing one remains its release date. Recently, retailer X Uruguay listed Grand Theft Auto 6 with a release date of September 17, 2025. This listing gained traction when a purported customer support conversation suggested that the release date information came directly from PlayStation, lending an air of credibility to the claim. However, the retailer has now clarified that this was not the case.

According to X Uruguay, no official information about GTA 6’s release date was received from PlayStation or any other major brand. Instead, the retailer simply noticed that Grand Theft Auto 5 was released on September 17, 2013, and chose to open pre-orders for GTA 6 on that same date. The company has since apologized for spreading misinformation and for misleading eager fans.

Why September 17, 2025, Was Never Believable

From the start, the September 17, 2025, release date raised red flags. That date falls on a Wednesday, which is an uncommon day for major video game releases. Typically, new video games launch on Tuesdays or Fridays, with some recent releases opting for Thursdays. While Wednesday releases are not entirely unheard of, they are certainly rare.

However, while the leaked date was false, there is still a possibility that GTA 6 could follow in the footsteps of its predecessor and launch in September. Rockstar has officially set a release window for Fall 2025, making a September release plausible.

Rockstar’s History of Delays: Should Fans Be Cautious?

Despite Rockstar’s target of Fall 2025, fans should remain prepared for potential delays. Rockstar Games has a well-documented history of postponing major releases to ensure a polished final product. Given the sheer scale and ambition of GTA 6, a delay pushing the game to 2026 is a possibility that many industry analysts have already predicted.

For now, all eyes remain on Rockstar Games. If they are committed to launching Grand Theft Auto 6 in Fall 2025, it stands to reason that Trailer 2 should be on the horizon. Until then, fans should take any unconfirmed release date rumors with a grain of salt and wait for official announcements from Rockstar.
