Following the success of last year’s Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection, fans of Lara Croft have even more to look forward to. Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is set to launch on February 14, 2025, for $30, bringing visual upgrades and new features to three classic titles: Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (1999), Tomb Raider: Chronicles (2000), and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003).
The remastered collection will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, offering players the chance to experience these beloved titles with modern enhancements. Key features include:
- Graphics toggle: Players can seamlessly switch between the original and modernized visuals.
- Control options: Choose between classic tank-style movement or modernized controls.
- Photo Mode: Capture iconic moments with a range of poses.
- Quality-of-life improvements: Additions like boss health bars and more streamlined gameplay.
- Trophies and achievements: Available on supported platforms.
While Tomb Raider IV and V are fan favorites, The Angel of Darkness (2003) stands out as a particularly intriguing entry. Originally released on the PS2, the game had a troubled development, marred by delays, cut content, and widespread criticism for its buggy mechanics and awkward controls. Despite its narrative strengths, the gameplay experience was often described as frustrating.
Greg Kasavin, a writer for GameSpot at the time and now a prominent game designer, summed up the experience: “The actual gameplay of Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness often isn’t fun at all, but instead can be frustrating, difficult, and tedious.”
However, the upcoming remaster offers a chance at redemption for this divisive title. With fixes to the controls and camera, The Angel of Darkness could finally live up to its potential and join the ranks of the series’ best installments.
Fans will be able to dive back into Lara Croft’s adventures when Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered launches on February 14, 2025.
