September 2024 Community Day Features Exclusive Bonuses, Rare Variants, and Special Research Opportunities
Niantic has officially announced that Ponyta and its regional variant, Galarian Ponyta, will be the featured Pokémon for Pokémon GO’s September 2024 Community Day. This highly anticipated event is set to take place on Saturday, September 14, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, offering players around the world the chance to catch these beloved creatures in greater numbers, with lucky trainers potentially encountering their shiny forms.
The announcement follows recent hints from Niantic, which suggested that the September Community Day would include not one but two featured Pokémon. This isn’t the first time the developer has doubled up on Community Day Pokémon; similar events in previous years featured pairs like Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew in March 2022, Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke in March 2023, and Wooper alongside its Paldean variant in November 2023.
Event Highlights
During the event window, both Ponyta and Galarian Ponyta will spawn more frequently in the wild. Trainers who manage to evolve either Pokémon into Rapidash or Galarian Rapidash during the event or up to five hours afterward will receive a special bonus: the Charged Attack Wild Charge. This powerful move deals 90 damage in trainer battles and 100 damage in gyms and raids, making it a valuable addition to any player’s arsenal.
As with previous Community Days, a Special Research story will be available for purchase at $1.00 USD. This exclusive content can also be gifted to friends who have achieved the Great Friends level or higher, adding a collaborative element to the event.
Post-Event Activities and Bonuses
The excitement doesn’t end when the Community Day window closes. From 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time on September 14, players can participate in four-star raid battles featuring Ponyta and Galarian Ponyta. Successfully completing these raids will trigger increased spawns of the two Pokémon around the host Gym for 30 minutes, offering a final opportunity to catch them in abundance.
Throughout the day, trainers can also enjoy several bonuses, including double Candy and triple Stardust for catching Pokémon, as well as a reduced Stardust cost for trades. Additionally, September’s Community Day will introduce themed Field Research, new showcases, and special in-game bundles, along with a Community Day Special Box available for purchase both in-game and through Niantic’s online store. New stickers featuring the event’s Pokémon will also be available via various in-game activities like spinning PokéStops and opening Gifts.
A Prelude to September’s Main Event
In the lead-up to September’s Community Day, Ponyta will play a starring role in the Triumph Together event, one of the final activities of August. During this event, players will collaborate to complete challenges, unlocking bonuses and earning special rewards. Among these rewards will be an encounter with a Ponyta wearing a Candela-themed accessory, a nod to Team Valor’s leader, adding another layer of excitement as the month progresses.
