Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 offers nearly identical gameplay experiences on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. However, achievement hunters have discovered one significant difference between the two versions. Xbox players can earn Microsoft’s new Mythic Achievement for completing the game, while PS5 players are once again left without a Platinum Trophy.
The difference might seem minor to casual players, but it gives dedicated completionists another reason to consider Microsoft’s console over Sony’s platform.
Modern Warfare 4 Supports Xbox Mythic Achievements
Microsoft recently introduced Mythic Achievements, a new recognition system that rewards players for completing every achievement in a game. The feature works similarly to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy system, which has rewarded completionists for years.
Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23 with 18 achievements on Xbox Series X/S. According to achievement hunter Stallion83, unlocking all 18 achievements also rewards players with a Mythic Achievement.
Interestingly, Modern Warfare 4 does not appear as a completely separate achievement list. Instead, Microsoft lists its achievements as additional content within the Call of Duty launcher.
Despite this arrangement, Xbox players can still receive the Mythic completion reward. Neither Microsoft nor Activision has explained why Modern Warfare 4 qualifies for this recognition despite its launcher integration.
For achievement hunters, however, the result is welcome news.
PS5 Players Are Once Again Missing a Platinum Trophy
Unfortunately, PlayStation 5 players do not receive the same treatment.
Modern Warfare 4 includes 18 PlayStation trophies, consisting of eight Gold and ten Silver trophies. However, the game does not feature a Platinum Trophy.
The issue comes from how Activision handles Call of Duty releases on PlayStation. Rather than giving each installment its own trophy list, the publisher integrates newer games into the existing Call of Duty application.
As a result, Modern Warfare 4 appears as additional trophy content instead of a standalone title. This arrangement prevents players from earning a traditional Platinum Trophy.
Previous Call of Duty releases faced similar criticism. Some players previously avoided the issue by completing separate PlayStation 4 versions, which offered different trophy arrangements.
However, Modern Warfare 4 launched exclusively on current-generation consoles. That decision removes the older workaround and leaves PS5 completionists without an alternative.
Completing Modern Warfare 4 Takes Around 15 Hours
Fortunately, Modern Warfare 4 does not require an enormous time investment to complete its initial achievement collection.
Players can reportedly unlock all 18 achievements in approximately 15 hours or more, depending on their experience and skill level.
The biggest challenge involves completing the campaign on Realism difficulty. This mode removes the traditional heads-up display, forcing players to rely more heavily on awareness, positioning, and careful combat decisions.
Although Realism increases the difficulty, experienced Call of Duty players should find the challenge manageable.
The relatively modest completion time makes Modern Warfare 4 an attractive option for Xbox achievement hunters looking to add another completed game to their collection.
Season 1 Could Introduce Additional Challenges
Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 arrives on November 6, bringing additional content to Activision’s latest shooter.
However, the publisher has not confirmed whether future updates will introduce more achievements or trophies.
There is also no indication that Activision plans to give Modern Warfare 4 a standalone PlayStation 5 trophy list.
Such a change could potentially address the missing Platinum Trophy, although players should not expect it without an official announcement.
For now, Xbox remains the only console platform where Modern Warfare 4 completionists can receive a dedicated reward for unlocking every achievement.
Xbox Finally Has an Advantage for Completionists
For years, PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy system offered something Xbox achievement hunters could not directly replicate. Microsoft’s introduction of Mythic Achievements could help close that gap.
Modern Warfare 4 highlights how the new system can even provide an advantage over PlayStation.
While both platforms offer the same core game and comparable completion challenges, Xbox players receive additional recognition for their efforts.
The situation also raises questions about Activision’s continued reliance on the Call of Duty launcher. Combining multiple releases into one application might simplify certain aspects of game management, but it continues to create unnecessary limitations for PlayStation trophy hunters.
Players who invest their time into completing every challenge deserve consistent recognition, regardless of their preferred platform.
Until Activision changes its approach, Modern Warfare 4 gives Xbox completionists something their PlayStation counterparts cannot earn.
