Steam players looking for something to play this weekend have several major games available without paying upfront. The latest Steam Free Weekend is now underway, offering temporary access to a selection of multiplayer and co-op games until September 21.
Unlike Steam’s Free-to-Keep promotions, these games are not permanently added to your library. Once the event ends, you’ll need to purchase them if you want to continue playing.
Still, with games such as Diablo 4 and Sea of Thieves included, there is plenty of time to see whether they deserve a permanent spot in your library.
Diablo 4
Diablo 4 is easily one of the biggest games included in this Free Weekend.
Released on Steam in October 2023, Blizzard’s action RPG takes players into the open world of Sanctuary, where they can build characters, hunt increasingly powerful equipment, clear dungeons, and tackle content alone or alongside other players.
The game currently sits at a Mostly Positive Steam rating, with around 73% positive reviews from more than 21,000 users.
Don’t expect to experience everything Diablo 4 has to offer in a single weekend. However, the free period gives new players more than enough time to test different classes and decide whether the gameplay loop works for them.
Those wanting to continue afterward can currently pick it up for $12.49 at 75% off, with the discount scheduled to remain available until September 24.
Sea of Thieves
Rare’s pirate sandbox Sea of Thieves is another major multiplayer game available during the event.
Originally released on Steam in June 2020, the game throws players into a shared open world filled with islands, treasure, skeletons, sea monsters, rival crews, and plenty of opportunities for things to go completely wrong.
It is especially suited to groups of friends, although solo play is also possible.
Sea of Thieves currently holds a Very Positive Steam rating, with approximately 88% positive reviews across more than 147,000 reviews.
Much like Diablo 4, this isn’t a game you’re realistically going to “finish” during a Free Weekend. Instead, the event works as an extended trial of its sailing, exploration, combat, and progression systems.
The game is also 65% off at $13.99 until September 27.
Last Flag
Players looking for something more competitive can try Last Flag.
Released on April 14, 2026, Last Flag is a 5v5 PvP hero shooter centered around Capture the Flag. Rather than asking players to commit to a lengthy campaign or progression-heavy RPG, the game focuses on relatively quick multiplayer matches.
Its Steam reception currently sits at Mostly Positive, with around 73% positive reviews from more than 500 players.
Because of its match-based structure, Last Flag is probably one of the easiest games in the promotion to properly experience before the Free Weekend ends.
Unlike several of the other games, however, there isn’t a major accompanying discount. Its regular price remains $4.99.
Jump Space
Jump Space rounds out the current selection with four-player cooperative sci-fi action.
Released in September 2025, the game revolves around mission-based adventures where players work together as a crew while exploring space, fighting enemies, and completing objectives.
Its shorter mission structure makes it particularly suitable for a Free Weekend. Players can experience a meaningful portion of the game without needing dozens of hours, while its replayable content provides a reason to continue afterward.
Steam users have also responded positively to the game. Jump Space currently holds a Very Positive rating, with roughly 87% positive reviews from more than 7,000 players.
It is currently available for $11.99 at 40% off, with that discount ending September 24.
When Does the Steam Free Weekend End?
The current Free Weekend runs until September 21 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET.
Players have full access to participating games while the promotion remains active, but access will disappear once the Free Weekend concludes unless the game is purchased.
Your progress will generally remain associated with your account, meaning purchasing a game afterward should allow you to continue rather than starting over, subject to each game’s own save and account systems.
Free Weekend Is Different From Free to Keep
It is worth emphasizing the difference between these promotions.
Steam regularly hosts Free-to-Keep giveaways where claiming a game during the promotion permanently adds it to your library. A Free Weekend instead works more like a temporary trial.
You can download and play the participating games during the promotional window, but they aren’t permanently yours.
That makes this weekend particularly useful for anyone who has been considering Diablo 4, Sea of Thieves, Last Flag, or Jump Space but hasn’t wanted to buy them without trying them first.
With several of the games also receiving substantial discounts, there is little reason to buy immediately. Try them for free first, then decide whether they’re worth keeping.
