Steam’s Free-to-Keep promotion has been relatively quiet since late August, but things are finally moving again. Three new freebies are currently available, including two full games and a DLC pack for Dying Light: The Beast.
Unlike Steam Free Weekends, these offers are permanent. Claim them before their respective deadlines and they remain tied to your account.
Three Steam Freebies Are Available Right Now
The current Free-to-Keep lineup includes:
- Crystal Crisis — Free until September 22
- Space Menace — Free until September 23
- Dying Light: The Beast – Discharge Weapon Pack — Free until September 24
Both Crystal Crisis and Space Menace are complete games, while the latest addition is DLC for Dying Light: The Beast.
That means there are now three separate deadlines to keep an eye on over the coming days.
Dying Light: The Beast Gets a Free Weapon Pack
The newest giveaway is the Discharge Weapon Pack for Dying Light: The Beast.
Normally priced at $4.99, the pack includes two items:
- Discharge Machete — an electrified machete for dealing with infected
- VNC Weapon Charm — a cosmetic charm for your weapon
There is one important requirement for Steam players: you need to own Dying Light: The Beast before you can claim the DLC.
If you already own the game, however, there is little reason to skip it. Claiming the pack during the promotion permanently adds it to your account.
PlayStation and Xbox Players Aren’t Left Out
This particular giveaway isn’t limited to Steam.
PlayStation and Xbox players can also claim the Discharge Weapon Pack during the promotional period. As with the Steam version, the DLC remains available on the account after the promotion ends once it has been claimed.
The offer runs until September 24, giving players several days to grab it.
The Giveaway Celebrates One Year of Dying Light: The Beast
The timing isn’t random.
Dying Light: The Beast originally launched on September 18 last year, meaning the game is now celebrating its first anniversary.
Techland has tied the free Discharge Weapon Pack to that milestone.
The publisher’s anniversary promotion also suggests there could be more activity surrounding The Beast, although players will have to wait and see whether anything else appears.
For now, the free DLC is an easy anniversary bonus for existing owners.
Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion Is Moving Again
Steam’s Free-to-Keep offers had slowed considerably after the end of August.
That has changed with Crystal Crisis, Space Menace, and now the Dying Light DLC appearing within a relatively short period.
It is worth remembering that Free-to-Keep promotions work differently from the Free Weekend events Steam regularly runs.
A Free Weekend gives you temporary access to a game. Once the event ends, you need to purchase it if you want to continue playing.
Free-to-Keep offers are different.
As long as you claim the game or DLC before its deadline, it stays in your library permanently.
You don’t even need to install it immediately.
Don’t Forget the Deadlines
With three promotions ending on different days, it is easy to miss one.
Crystal Crisis disappears first on September 22, followed by Space Menace on September 23. The Dying Light: The Beast – Discharge Weapon Pack then ends on September 24.
If you’re interested in any of them, add them to your account while they’re still available.
