GTA 6 Reveal Sends PS5 Pro Demand Surging as Resellers Push Prices Above $1,200

The latest GTA 6 showcase appears to have created another headache for players hoping to upgrade before launch. Following Rockstar Games’ massive Extended Look at Grand Theft Auto 6, PS5 Pro consoles have become increasingly difficult to find at normal retail prices.

The situation is already giving resellers an opportunity. Third-party listings have pushed PS5 Pro prices toward $1,200–$1,300 in the United States, while some European listings are approaching €1,300.

With GTA 6 launching in just two months, the rush to secure the strongest PlayStation console may have officially started.

Rockstar Showed Nearly 30 Minutes of GTA 6

Rockstar released its GTA 6 Extended Look on August 27, giving players almost 30 minutes of footage from the upcoming open-world game.

More importantly for PlayStation owners, the entire presentation was captured on PS5.

The showcase provided a much deeper look at Leonida and its enormous open world. Jason and Lucia took center stage, while Rockstar also highlighted vehicles, combat, activities, interiors, nightlife and many of the smaller details scattered throughout the world.

GTA 6 is currently scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Rockstar has still not announced a PC release.

PS5 Pro Stock Tightened After the Showcase

The timing of the showcase appears to have had an immediate effect on PS5 Pro availability.

Major retailers including Best Buy and Target reportedly burned through available inventory, while PlayStation Direct briefly continued selling the console at its official $899.99 price before stock disappeared there as well.

That left third-party sellers in a very comfortable position.

Listings through Amazon and Walmart marketplace sellers, alongside consoles appearing on eBay, quickly started showing substantially higher prices.

Some U.S. listings have reached approximately $1,200 to $1,300.

The situation is arguably even worse in parts of Europe, where reseller listings have appeared around €1,300 — roughly $1,500 depending on exchange rates.

That is an enormous premium for players whose main reason for upgrading may simply be getting the best possible console experience when GTA 6 arrives.

GTA 6 Is Creating the Perfect Storm for PS5 Pro

The GTA 6 showcase isn’t solely responsible for the situation.

Sony had already increased the PS5 Pro’s official U.S. price to $899.99 earlier in 2026. Hardware and component costs have remained an industry-wide problem throughout the year, putting additional pressure on console manufacturing and retail availability.

GTA 6 is now adding another layer of demand on top of that existing pressure.

Millions of players have been waiting years for Rockstar’s next Grand Theft Auto game. Once the Extended Look demonstrated what the game actually looks like running on PlayStation hardware, buying or upgrading a console became a much more immediate decision.

For players already considering a PS5 Pro, GTA 6 may simply have provided the final push.

PS5 Pro Enhancements Are Coming

There’s another important factor driving interest in the console.

GTA 6 will receive PS5 Pro enhancements.

Exactly what those enhancements will provide remains unclear. Rockstar has not yet detailed resolution targets, graphical modes, ray tracing improvements or potential differences in frame rate.

Even without those details, confirmation of PS5 Pro support makes the console an obvious target for enthusiasts who want the highest-end PlayStation version available at launch.

The standard PS5 will still run GTA 6, of course. The Extended Look itself demonstrates that Rockstar is building the game around current-generation console hardware rather than requiring upgraded systems.

The question is how much better the PS5 Pro version will actually be.

Don’t Feed the Resellers

A temporary shortage doesn’t mean the PS5 Pro suddenly has a new $1,200 or €1,300 official price.

Those are reseller markups.

The official MSRP remains significantly lower, meaning anyone paying these inflated prices is effectively spending hundreds extra simply to avoid waiting for another retail restock.

And there is still time.

GTA 6 launches on November 19, leaving Sony and retailers roughly two months to replenish inventory. The approaching holiday shopping season also makes additional shipments extremely likely.

Whether those restocks will be enough to satisfy GTA 6-driven demand is another question.

GTA 6 Could Become a Major Hardware Seller

Grand Theft Auto has always been capable of moving hardware, but GTA 6 is arriving under extraordinary circumstances.

GTA 5 originally launched in 2013. By the time GTA 6 releases, players will have waited more than 13 years for a completely new numbered entry.

That creates a massive audience consisting not only of existing PS5 and Xbox Series owners, but potentially millions of people who have delayed buying current-generation hardware.

The PS5 Pro sits at the premium end of that market.

If enthusiasts have decided that GTA 6 is finally the game worth upgrading for, Sony could be heading into one of the strongest periods of PS5 Pro demand since the console launched.

For now, however, the biggest winners are resellers who managed to secure stock before everyone else started looking.

With November 19 getting closer, finding a PS5 Pro at its actual retail price could become a game of its own.
