The Zelda Master Collection trading cards have officially been revealed as part of Nintendo’s celebrations for the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo has partnered with Panini for the new collection, which brings together characters and artwork from across decades of Zelda games.
The collection was showcased during the European 40th Anniversary presentation. Unlike the Pokémon Trading Card Game, however, the Zelda Master Collection trading cards appear to be designed purely for collecting.
Fans will also be able to store their cards inside a dedicated Master Collection album.
Zelda Master Collection Trading Cards Celebrate 40 Years
The Zelda Master Collection trading cards will cover different generations of The Legend of Zelda.
The original game launched in Japan in 1986, giving Nintendo 40 years of games, characters, locations, enemies, and artwork to use for the collection.
Several different eras are represented. These range from classic Zelda adventures to games released during the Nintendo 64 and GameCube generations.
The collection also includes artwork connected to games such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
More recent Zelda releases are represented as well, including games from the Wilds Era and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
As a result, the collection could essentially become a physical celebration of Zelda’s history.
Panini Is Producing the Zelda Master Collection
Nintendo has partnered with Panini to produce the Zelda Master Collection trading cards.
Panini is already widely associated with collectible cards and sticker albums. That experience fits Nintendo’s approach with the Zelda collection.
A dedicated album will accompany the cards, allowing collectors to store and display their collection.
There is currently no indication that Nintendo is creating an actual Zelda trading card game.
No gameplay rules, decks, attack values, abilities, or competitive elements have been announced. Instead, the cards focus on artwork and characters from the franchise.
That makes the Master Collection primarily a product for Zelda collectors rather than players looking for another TCG.
Zelda Master Collection Release Date Is Still Unknown
Nintendo and Panini have not announced when the Zelda Master Collection trading cards will become available.
Pricing is also unknown.
Several other important details have yet to be revealed, including the total number of cards in the collection and how individual packs will be sold.
Nintendo has also not confirmed whether there will be different card rarities or special cards for collectors to find.
Distribution remains another major question.
The Master Collection appeared during the European Zelda anniversary presentation. However, it remains unclear whether Nintendo and Panini plan to release the cards outside Europe.

Nintendo Celebrates Zelda’s 40th Anniversary
The Master Collection forms part of Nintendo’s wider celebration of The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary.
Rather than relying on one enormous anniversary event, Nintendo has spread the celebration across games, collectibles, amiibo, hardware, music, and other merchandise.
One of the biggest announcements is the Ocarina of Time remake, bringing one of the franchise’s most famous adventures back for a new generation.
The Zelda Master Collection trading cards provide something different.
Instead of revisiting one particular game, the cards can celebrate multiple generations of Zelda at the same time.
That could make the collection especially appealing to longtime fans who have followed the franchise across several Nintendo consoles.
More Zelda Could Be on the Way
Nintendo may have even more planned for The Legend of Zelda after its 40th anniversary.
Rumors have suggested that multiple Zelda projects could currently be in development. However, these claims remain unconfirmed, and Nintendo has not announced those projects.
For now, the Zelda Master Collection trading cards add another physical collectible to the anniversary lineup.
The biggest unanswered questions are the release date, price, number of cards, and international availability.
With 40 years of Zelda history available to explore, Panini certainly has plenty of material for the collection.
