Rockstar has finally given players an extended look at GTA 6, revealing considerably more gameplay, interiors, combat, and side activities across Vice City.
The 26-minute GTA 6 Extended Look premiered through Netflix and combines lengthy gameplay sections with story cutscenes. While recent leaks revealed several parts of the game ahead of schedule, the official presentation still contained plenty of details that had not previously surfaced.
One of the biggest takeaways is just how detailed and interactive the world appears to be. Rockstar showcased complex interior environments alongside activities such as backyard wrestling, suggesting players will have plenty to discover away from the main story.
GTA 6 Features Much More Detailed Interior Environments
The Extended Look wastes little time demonstrating the scale of GTA 6’s indoor environments.
Jason and Lucia are shown entering a drug den while completing a pick-up for Boobie Ike. However, the situation quickly falls apart when police raid the building.
Instead of immediately escaping onto the streets, Jason and Lucia must navigate through the apartment complex itself. The sequence takes players through twisting corridors, rooms, stairways, and other interior areas while police attempt to stop them.
It gives the building considerably more depth than the relatively simple interiors found throughout many previous Grand Theft Auto games.
More importantly, the sequence suggests that interiors could play a much larger role in GTA 6’s missions.
Buildings may no longer simply function as locations players briefly enter before returning to the open world. Larger interiors could instead become substantial environments of their own, giving Rockstar more opportunities to create shootouts, pursuits, exploration sections, and other encounters.
Combat Gets a Cinematic Touch
The police raid also provided another look at GTA 6’s gunplay.
During the battle, Jason lands a shotgun headshot on a police officer. The game briefly switches to a dramatic slow-motion cinematic camera angle to emphasize the shot.
It is a feature that will look familiar to players who spent time with Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rockstar used similar cinematic effects to make particularly impressive moments during combat feel more impactful. Bringing that idea into GTA 6 could make shootouts significantly more dramatic without completely interrupting gameplay.
The sequence also demonstrates how Rockstar appears to be combining the faster combat expected from Grand Theft Auto with some of the presentation techniques developed for Red Dead Redemption 2.
Backyard Wrestling Is One of GTA 6’s Side Activities
Gunfights and story missions weren’t the only things Rockstar wanted to show.
The Extended Look also revealed backyard wrestling as one of the activities players can encounter.
Grand Theft Auto games have traditionally included plenty of distractions outside their main campaigns, ranging from races and sports to gambling and various stranger activities.
Backyard wrestling fits perfectly into that formula.
It also reinforces the impression that GTA 6’s world isn’t simply being designed as a massive map filled with mission markers. Rockstar appears to be putting considerable effort into activities and encounters that make Vice City and its surrounding areas feel active even when players aren’t progressing through the story.
The GTA 6 Leaks Didn’t Reveal Everything
Recent GTA 6 leaks may have spoiled some of Rockstar’s planned reveals, but the Extended Look makes it clear that plenty remained under wraps.
At 26 minutes long, the presentation contains a substantial amount of gameplay, yet it still appears to cover only a fraction of what players will eventually encounter.
That’s particularly noticeable when looking at the combination of detailed interiors, combat encounters, side activities, NPCs, and story sequences included throughout the showcase.
For a game with an enormous open world, even a lengthy gameplay presentation can only reveal so much.
GTA 6 Is Starting to Show Its True Scale
The Extended Look provides a much better idea of what Rockstar is attempting to accomplish with GTA 6.
Vice City may be enormous, but sheer map size doesn’t appear to be the only priority. Detailed interiors, cinematic combat sequences, unusual side activities such as backyard wrestling, and more elaborate indoor encounters could make the world feel considerably denser.
The apartment raid is particularly promising because it demonstrates that some of GTA 6’s most interesting environments may exist behind closed doors rather than exclusively across its streets.
After years of trailers, speculation, leaks, and small glimpses of gameplay, Rockstar is finally beginning to show just how much is hiding inside GTA 6.
